Italy and France on Monday urged Iraq not to execute Saddam Hussein, saying it would be ethically wrong and would risk pushing the country towards civil war, Reuters reported.

"In the dramatic, difficult situation in Iraq, the execution of Saddam Hussein could push the country towards a real civil war," Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D''Alema told reporters after meeting French counterpart Philippe Douste-Blazy in Paris.

"This is the reason for the appeal we are sending to the Iraqi authorities -- to the democratic authorities of Iraq, which we respect and support -- that the sentence should not be carried out," he said.

"Hang him high."

I'd like to see them do that, in between the stoning and the trip to the plastics chipper...

One would think that these Euro-weasels would want him dead, as his secrets (which would implicate many of them) would presumably die with him.

If Il Duce was alive today, this guy would be polishing his boots. How can you possibly forget in only two generations what the face of evil looks like?

It's a darn shame they didn't participate more in the liberation of Iraq, because then they might have some input into the matter.

Europe's gone. They are dead. There's no hope for them.

That France would feel that way is no surprise, but I hate that Italy feels the butcher's life should be spared.

Did hanging Mussolini by his heels push Italy into civil war?

Italy and France on Monday urged Iraq not to execute Saddam Hussein.....

Expect more and more of this. The Iraqi's would be well served to do execute this monster ASAP because there will be alot of political pressure in the coming days to spare his life. If they bend to the pressure, publicly they will be hailed as "enlightened". Behind closed doors they will be seen as weak.

Why do the french care now? Where were the calls when they were making money a few years ago secretly fueling the fire. Too bad.

What a bunch of losers? Would they have said the same thing about Adolph Hitler if he had lived, been tried and sentenced to die?
