Daniel Ortega elected, according to a radio Sandinista
MANAGUA - the ex-guerillero Daniel Ortega would be elected with the first turn of the presidential election, according to the radio "primerissima", a radio operator pro-Sandinista who quotes a nonofficial fast calculation.
The Face Sandinista of release Nationale (FSLN) would obtain 40,22% of the votes, in front of national Alliance nicaragueyenne (ALN) of Eduardo Montealegre with 30,3O%, the Party Liberal Constitutionaliste (PLC) of Jose Rizo 22%, the movement of restoration Sandinista (MRS) of Edmundo Jarquin 6,67% and Alliance for the change (AC) of Eden Pastora 0,4%.

To be elected with the first turn, Daniel Ortega was to obtain at least 35 % of the voices with 5% in advance on the candiat arriving as a second.
These figures were not confirmed by the Electoral Supreme Council which must give the first official results towards 23H00 local (05H00 GMT) and had asked the candidates and the media to abstain from publishing other results.
Democracy's a bitch. Unless he proves otherwise we need to engage him with an open mind. Their voters have spoken.
OMG you mean Ronnie little b***h Hal???
Well since they're not being a proxy for the Soviet Union anymore, the situation's a little different. I suppose they can ruin their country if they want to.
Is he still socialist???
Unless his friend Jimmy Carter looked the other way at stuffed ballot boxes.
Ortega was supposed to be in the lead. Furthermore, the opposition was split between two candidates, and Oliver North apparently was seen as endorsing the weaker of the two when he went on a trip down there, thus making both viable and split the vote so that Mr. Ortega could win.
But there was a corrupt bargain to lower the standards for when a runoff is necessary. The previous president got immunity from prosecution in exchange for lowering the cutoff from 40% to 35%. As far as I'm concerned, the cutoff should be < 50% + 1 vote. I'm glad Ortega got more than 40%, because I think it would be disastrous to get elected with the support of barely 1/3 of the voters.
Have they? Do you have Jimmy Carter's word on that?
Before Chevez and his various barnacles and imitators are done the "progressives" will progress Central and South America back into the wonderful dictator-of-the-week chaos of which this hemisphere is historically so fond.
Can we just leave Peanut Brain down there? We definitely don't want him doing things that actually might hurt us, like meddling in the Middle East or North Korea or something...</ sarcasm
Ballistic opportunity.
Committing suicide in the country by voting for Ortega.
So like Socialist system in Central and South America any good allies for US ANYWHERE WHOA
I think Columbia is our best ally. The rest could be considered an ally, but don't ask for a dificult vote in tht UN.
I trust Jimmy Carter would never do such a thing. /s
Did Jimmah Carter solitify the election like he did Chavez'?
