Sen. Lincoln Chafee Now Leads Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse by 1% (New Poll
MSNBC | Nov 5, 2006

Posted on 11/05/2006 12:09:25 PM PST by Laissez-faire capitalist

Just saw it a little while ago on MSNBC. Lincoln Chafee, according to a new McClatchy poll, leads Sheldon Whitehouse (D) by 1%, 46% to 45%.

Kyl is ahead by 7%.

Steele is virtually tied with Ben Cardin (D). 47 to 44%

Burns has made a major comeback and is now tied with Democrat Jon Tester.

Corker is ahead by 12%.

Webb and Allen are tied.

Get out and vote! The Dems haven't won. Not by a long shot.

IMHO, the only thing keeping the Republicans from gaining seats in the Senate are Santorum and Dewine.

I personally believe that Talent, Burns, Corker, Allen, and Kyl will all win.

I also believe that Steele will pull out a victory.

Kean Jr has a slim shot at winning.

Based on this, the Republicans would still have 54-55 seats when the elections were over.

Darn, I wanted to lose this one. Can you imagine the agony of having a 50/50 Senate (which is the only reason to have Chafee) and then see him switch sides. Better to be rid of him AND hold the Senate anyway. Maybe our candidate in '08 will be smart enough to support someone like Laffey.

Kyl is ahead by 7%.

Kyl has no chance of losing.

Steele is virtually tied with Ben Cardin (D). 47 to 44%

Steele will win as Blacks who don't admit voting for him because he is black outnumber whites who don't vote for him because he is black. He will run 5 points ahead of polls, and get a good chunk of black votes. Only hope for Dems is massive voter fraud. Burns has made a major comeback and is now tied with Democrat Jon Tester.

Burns will win by a few. Montanans, like GOPers around the nation, are only focusing on the race these past few weeks, and they are not going to send Fester Bestertester to the Senate.

Corker is ahead by 12%.

Corker was never in trouble, that was all manufactured by the MSM.

Webb and Allen are tied.

That's a load of macaca. Allen by 5. It would be 10, but his reaction to being attacked was to emulate a deer in the headlights instead of a strong leader. Webb is a weird dude and by now everyone knows it. Allen has lost his chance to advance to national office, though.

Talent will win by 4 or 5, enough to overcome St. Louis voter fraud.

Santorum and Dewine still have a chance, but I am not counting on them. If they win, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Final tally: GOP minimum is 52, max is 56. I predict 53 and a loss of Chafee, which is a net loss of only one, since I don't count Chafee as on our side. The MSM will be apoplectic.

it depends who you ask.

what is clear now is that a swing of +- 3 seats are going to come down to races with a 2% margin of victory.

I still think our only chance of a flip in with Steele. On all the others, we have to defend seats we currently have. Santorum, DeWine, Talent, Chaffee, Burns, Allen. We are unlikely to win all 6 of those, defending 4 of those 6 is a decent bet.

You mean the polls have been bogus up until now? The GOP could do a lot better than we all think.

Steele has all of the earmarks of a successful campaign with hidden from polling strength.

He is a sharp guy, Cardin didn't even realize or wouldn't admit to voting for the Patriot Act. He is stiff and out of touch and easy to dislike.

For RI, we lose either way. I despise Chafee.

Ditto on Chaffey.

He quorums with the republicans though, so judicial nominations going through requires Chaffey's participation.

too bad. Chafee needs to be retired, drawn, and quartered.

Unfortunately (for you), should the Republicans lose because sufficient dissatisfied Repubs voted against incumbents, it may be you that's drawn and quartered here on FR.

The election is much more than individuals or their politics. What's important this year is defending congress against DEMOCRAT takeover. Sorry, I dislike Chafee as much as anyone. But if it means retaining him to insure a Republican congress then so be it.

I'm not in RI, but if I were there is a #1 reason to vote for EVERY GOP CANDIDATE ...

IT'S THE JUDGES, STUPID!

Letting the Democrat win is giving Schumer ammo for his filibusters ...

Yeah, I know. I wish we could get rid of him but he's at least (technically) still an R and if it keeps the dims from gaining the Senate...

I'll take it ... Media will be maximally apoplectic if Santorum pulls out an upset, an outcome to be devoutly wished for!

Chafee is ahead in Rhode Island and Kean is even in NJ. Both blue states. This is good news for the more conservative states. I do believe we will keep both the House and the Senate.

WOAG,

IT may be the judges, but ya think Chaffee will actually be grateful and vote for 1 or 2 (the Supremes) if GWB gets to nominate them?

I think not, Chaffee comes across as a snaughtly nosed brat and not a team player.

The question is who gets Senate Majority Leader, that is the million dollar question, especially after how left out we felt the last couple of years with Hastert/Frist.
