Iraq urges calm ahead of Saddam verdict
By CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer 38 minutes ago
SNIP
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister on Saturday urged his countrymen to accept the impending verdict against Saddam Hussein without violence, then in the next breath declared the former dictator must get "what he deserves" with the decision that could send him to the gallows.

The execution of Ceausescu was the best Christmas present to the Romanian people.
In that type of situation acting quickly was the best thing, instead of dragging it out, giving the communist elements some hope, etc.
I think if Saddam had been found by the Iraqis, not by US troops, we wouldn't have had this trial, he would also had been dead within hours, if not sooner, and would have saved everyone this travesty.
Well, at least we killed his sons and they can't propagate his regime.

Unless in the UK the reading of the verdict is called a hearing. I think it is. It's a Parliamentary government, so that would make sense.
They wouldn't lock Baghdad down like this for just a hearing. They usually just close off the area around the courthouse on trial days. The whole city is shut down today. Until further notice.

"To believe that "life is short" is to rob oneself!
"Now" is MUCH longer, is in fact infinite.
And is eternal.

No. The whole trial isn't shown live - it is on a 30-minute tape delay. It was unclear from Fox's earlier coverage how much time the defendants were given for their speeches, whether all of the defendants would be speaking, and how long the recess would take. The speeches supposedly have no legal consequence.
