Kerry's Remark: Right either way
Seattle Post-Intelligencer Editorial Board
Republicans evidenced their election desperation by braying about an offhand comment that Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., made at a California college rally.
"Education" Kerry said "-- if you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
Was Kerry making fun of the president, or warning students against the pitfalls awaiting the undereducated in general?
It doesn't matter. Kerry was right either way.
Kerry wasn't saying -- regardless of the Republican spin -- that our troops are stupid.
Kerry's intended point was obvious. President Bush didn't do his homework before he ordered the invasion. He didn't study the intricacies of Mideast religion, culture, politics and tribalism. He wasn't smart about it and we are stuck in Iraq.
Although there are plenty of well-educated people in our armed forces -- Kerry was one of them -- military service has long been an opportunity employer for those with less education and fewer skills than they need to work in the private sector. Indeed, the military sells itself as a place to garner skills and to help pay for higher education.
And wars, including this one, are often fought by those less privileged -- albeit no less smart -- than the sons and daughters of those who lead us into them.
Apologies? Sure, from the cut-and-run Democratic candidates who've cancelled appearances with Kerry.
The P-I editors are prats, and so is John Kerry.
LOL! great picture
Come on, Democrats, show some cojones--admit that this is exactly how you feel about our military, and shout it proudly, 24/7, right up to election day. Let the Democrats BE Democrats--be honest. Tell us how you really feel.
Kerry was a good start. He has replaced the fallen Hillary--you know, since she became a "moderate"--as their standard bearer because he dared to tell the truth, which is that REAL Democrats hate the military which protects them.
Keep it up, JFinK, you're doing your party proud.
....utterly craptastic
Well we could make sure to alert Drudge to this interesting development.
There are some Pubs out there castigating us for harping on Kerry's remarks. He's the one keeping this alive, and I think we should hammer both Kerry and the Dems with it.
It's a lot more timely than that incredible nuclear story which no one is even talking about less than a day later.
John Kerry: Right No Matter What
excellent new word, email to webster.
Yeah, the NYT has gotten rusty at the October Surprise thing.
I laugh when dems say that Bush had no plan after the liberation of Iraq. Anyone with a thought knows that we needed a base in Iraq and now we have one.
This spin doesn't work when you put his latest remarks next to 3 decades of similar talk.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer--On a liberal tailspin into oblivion.
I predict the paper folds before the next Presidential election. The sooner, the better.
I got a call from a P-I telemarketer tonight. They were trying to sell me a subscription. When I said no, the lady asked me why. I told her that I didn't like the left wing crap put forth as news in the paper.
I noticed nobody was talking about the Slimes nuke attack.
Is this editorial kidding? D student Kerry being "educated"? In what way, exactly?
I guess we are all stupid because we assign meaning to what we actually hear and not what the speaker meant. Damn those lying ears and eyes!
Now it's the truth? It was a joke just a few hours ago...
