Senator Frist;
As a prior member (and retiree) of the military, I am appalled at Senator Kerry's remark to college students implying that those serving are only doing so because they are uneducated or failed college. I will have you know that I entered the service in 1977 immediately after graduating high school because I WANTED TO SERVE and get my education while in the military. And while serving, I completed my degree in computer science. What do you suppose is more difficult? Staying on a college campus and obtaining your degree in an antiseptic environment. Or getting your education while enduring the rigors of life with a family and nation to protect. Stand up for American troops and ask for Kerry's resignation. We have no time for these distractions during our current struggle.

Chris Matthews opens by saying "republicans are jumping on a sentence Kerry made yesterday in California" . Who jumped on "sixteen words" that Bush said in a State Of The Union address?

And did you see this post, about Kerry's grades?
But newly released records show that Bush and Kerry had a virtually identical grade average at Yale University four decades ago.
In 1999, The New Yorker published a transcript indicating that Bush had received a cumulative score of 77 for his first three years at Yale and a roughly similar average under a non-numerical rating system during his senior year.
Kerry, who graduated two years before Bush, got a cumulative 76 for his four years, according to a transcript that Kerry sent to the Navy when he was applying for officer training school. He received four D's in his freshman year out of 10 courses, but improved his average in later years.

"botched a joke"
It was a BAD joke, not a botched one, and it is a familiar liberal theme: People who join the military are either uneducated, stupid, or duped. That's why it escaped his mouth - he thought he was among friends where that message would be accepted, and forgot that he was being recorded.
