(CBS) LOS ANGELES A civil rights activist obtained a stay-away order against Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles, claiming the congresswoman threatened him at a Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger campaign appearance, the activist said Wednesday.
Najee Ali. executive director of Project Islamic Hope, said he sought the order, which he said requires the congresswoman to stay five yards away from him, to show "no one is above the law."
Mikael Moore, Waters' chief of staff in Washington, D.C., had no immediate comment.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Richard E. Rico issued the temporary restraining order against Waters Wednesday and set a Nov. 14 hearing on whether to make it permanent, according to the Superior Court public information office.
No one from Waters' office was present in court, Ali said. A copy of the order was not immediately available.
Ali said he sought the order following an Oct. 2 campaign appearance by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where the governor met with clergy.
Waters and about 100 protestors showed up and reportedly called the clergy sellouts, and Ali said Waters verbally threatened him in the church parking lot.
"I remember her saying she was going to make it rough for me and that she was going to get me," Ali told lacitybeat.com. "I was stunned that a U.S. congresswoman would threaten me because I wanted to exercise my freedom of speech."

Wow, I bet Maxine Watters "did a 360" on hearing this!
Hard to pick a side in this one.
Ms. Waters is nuts.
Hard to pick a side in this one
I know. LOL!
Yes, in this case, "The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy!"
She should be exhiled to Mars, right near "where our astronauts placed the flag."
In all fairness, wasn't that quote from Shelia Jackson from Houston, Texas? I don't think Maxine Waters would have said that, because being from Mars, she knows better!
LOL!
I'm confusing my LLMC (Liberal Lady Moonbats of Color.) Thanks for the correction!
Maxine waters, Charter member of the Klan with a tan CBC.
If she lived in Britain they would be begging her to wear a veil.
And a muzzle.
That's what you get for associating with Republicans.
Well, Najee, given that I don't trust either you nor Maxine farther than I can throw ya, I think I'd like to hear the conversation on tape...oh, you don't have it on tape?
Well...good luck with that!
Maxine & her mentality would be a bank robber. The other guy would take it by electronic means. All in all ya gotta feel sorry for those people in her district.
Your only hope is to renounce satanallah, and stop following in the ways of muuuhamhead (Pigs be inseminating her)!
We don't call her "Mad Max" fer nuthin'!
"The mayor has named a citizens committee, which includes the usual cast of unsavory characters, including the likes of Rev. Cecil "Chip" Murray of First African Methodist Episcopal Church, who is known for giving out condoms in his church; and Ronald Antwine, said to be a founding member of the Bounty Hunters street gang."
One of the committee members, Project Islamic Hopes Najee Ali, who made something of a name for himself leading protests during the recent Jeremy MorseDonovan Jackson racially-charged police brutality case, was quoted as saying, Its Rodney King all over again. Police chief Bratton called Ali one of the biggest nitwits in Los Angeles on CNN, just before Ali was named to the citizens committee.
After it was publicized that Ali has a trial pending for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident and identity theft, Ali hastily quit the citizens committee. Ali is reportedly a former member of the notorious Crips gang who was convicted of armed robbery in 1988 and who spent two years at the California Correctional Institute in Tehachapi. But even more interesting, the Christian Science Monitor interviewed Ali two years ago, and he revealed that he was an active participant in the 92 L.A. riots! His name was reportedly Todd Eskew (before later changing it to a Muslim name in prison):
Ali can't recall how many windows he broke, or how many fires he and his friends started. They'd light anything in a store that would burn and spread flames quickly and then run. Their rage was born of poverty and humiliation, and years of perceived abuse by police and neighborhood Korean stores. I was so angry I wanted to continue. But I stopped after two days out of sheer, physical exhaustion, says Mr. Eskew, who goes by the name of Najee Ali today
