A Return to Triangulation (libertarion vs social right)
National Review Online ^ | 10/25/06 | David Boaz & David Kirby

Posted on 10/25/2006 11:10:46 AM PDT by Blackirish

As the Republican base fragments and Christian conservatives consider a “fast” from politics, the polling data point to a mid-term Republican thumping. Less than two weeks from now, Republicans will begin their post-mortem soul searching. And as the corpses of their House and Senate majorities grow cold, so should Karl Rove’s 2006 campaign strategy.

Well, perhaps unidentified metal objects that look like they might be large enough to conceal a hazardous amount of C4 will warrant further investigation.

That is not very large, and I doubt that they would be "unidentifiable". They would look innocuous.

OK, you've sold me. No system or combination of systems will be unbeatable, so therefore let's not implement any measures at all. Seems a bit counterintuitive, but there we are.

Since you not only brought NOTHING with you, but the tatters on your back, and have been sponging off your boyfriend, how can there be a divorce and a property settlement?

This is a highly interesting discussion, but it's like the fourth topic so far for this poor thread. Perhaps we should continue it elsewhere ;)

Hi CA Guy. Haven't talked to you in a long time.

No one says it is set in stone. Within its limitations, though, we can have a high degree of confidance in the answers we get from it. However, it doesn't answer questions of meaning and purpose. That's what faith is for.

Well, you know, the metaphor isn't perfect. I guess I could demand half of my old posts back or something, but that seems kind of silly :)

He's a troll, Jim. Just give him what he's been begging for; his freedom from FR.

forum established by B-and, more: many of us have been defending and advocating the political conservative movement in places elsewhere than FR, elsewhere than the conservative clique on the internet, in places where intelligent and thoughtful people who are independent, or libertarian, or merely centrist, or *gasp!* somewhat to the left of center.

I am one such conservatism-apologist.
Greek and Ironbear can attest to that fact.
I've actually managed to have some small effect, to induce some reexamination. among literate and intellectually honest moderates and leftists, of their beliefs.
And I have long defended political conservatism against the anti-science (and incipient theocracy) charge.

but... now...

Now, this day, I must say that the way FR (and, all too much, the GOP) has been trending over the last year or so makes me feel like I have been made into a liar.

It is difficult, when made into a liar, to refrain from hating those who have turned your good works to evil and falsity.
I'm managing the trick, thus far, but it is definitely a strain.

Who here on Free Republic is using science as a "weapon" to "insult and beat up on religious conservatives", and how exactly is this being done?

Post 267, this thread.

Post 335, this thread.

This opus from King Prout-- "a site explicitly dedicated to Luddism".

This gem from Vade Retro, which says:

"The Earth has a real history too, written by the way things have worked and still do work. It isn't anything any willfully pig-ignorant snothead wants to paint it to be based on his attachment to one Bronze Age creation myth over several others and his willingness to ignore most facts, misinterpret a few dozen others, mangle quotes, and come back relentlessly dumber than dog manure."

That's off of the top of my head, and just this week.

There are other examples, going back a long way...the proof is left as an exercise for the interested lurker.

Full Disclosure: Don't go and whine that "creationists flame people too!" -- you happened to ask where *evolutionists* were flaming people, so I gave examples of that. I'm sure that someone, somewhere has a list of insults by creationists, to go along with the "this is your brain on creationism" humorous quotes...

Cheers!

You claimed that I had requested others to "prove" that the Ten Commandments were authored by God. You were clearly incorrect, as I had merely inquired as to how they had arrived at that particular conclusion. You have also not explained how such a request is an application of science, nor have you established that such a request is an insult or attack.

It's obvious for everyone to see that you enjoy taunting posters.

Given that you have made a demonstratably false claim about my behaviour, it would not be wise to accept your assertion without further evidence.

Just shooting fish in a barrel I guess.

I do not believe that this statement is a valid analogy for the current discussion.

"No, I think you're missing my point. I'll try again. I say the evolutionists on FR (and elsewhere) who are using their science as a weapon to insult and beat up on religious conservatives are being used as political tools by the Marxists. And the Marxist goals for this effort is to further split the conservative movement, help them eliminate any mention of God from our public life, and make it that much easier for them to destroy the rest of our God-given rights. Bringing forth a socialist Utopia is their ultimate goal (IMHO).

And it appears to working out for them. Too bad and too sad."

Bumpity bump BUMP!

Thank you, all, for your posts.
I, especially, thank you, Jim.

They have Darwin Central.
But, they DO need "us" to further their cause.

I pray that is not allowed to happen.

Repeating...

"Bringing forth a socialist Utopia is their ultimate goal (IMHO)."

I see. You must be talking about This post, to which you haven't replied. And having nothing else to say, you revert to the old and stale tactic of claiming we are really all one poster.

It's your conclusion. What it tells me, is that my equipment better be damned sensitive and selective so as to detect miniscule traces of the compounds.

You remind me of the inspector who criticized me in report after I told my boss that we were going to get decimated by the simulated defenses when attacking our targets. He said I was negative. I merely presented my boss with what I thought was in store for us as an answer to his question. I was 100% correct.

I have NEVER, not even once, been on a crevo thread.....except this one and this thread did NOT start out life as one; it was hijacked. And it is the hijacking, with which I have and still do take umbrage.

And as far as I know, I have never engaged you in any kind of flaming, baiting, or condemnation.

Go to a lefty forum sometime - if it hasn't been overrun, you'll find plenty of people gnashing their teeth about how Howard Dean nutjobs or 9/11 conspiracy theorists have hijacked the left. Doesn't mean they're gonna pull the (R) lever in a couple of weeks.

That might be true, for all I know--but it's a change of subject from my last sentence, and looks like evading the point which you brought up in your last post, after I successfully defended my position.

Cheers!
