Deliver a Spanking
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | October 22, 2006 | Colin McNickle

Posted on 10/22/2006 8:49:20 AM PDT by Conservative Goddess

I am your typical Republican "supervoter." .... But I'm seriously considering ending that streak this Nov. 7. ...

I'm also a contrarian -- a conservative with libertarian leanings. Combine all these characteristics, then mix in the aggregate Republican record, allow the ire it has created to rise and bake it for a few years and here's what comes out of the oven:

A party base that's mad as hell and no longer willing to rationalize GOP failures. It's a base whose crust grows darker and thicker -- i.e., angrier -- when prominent conservatives and Republicans -- politicians, pundits, radio talk-show hosts and think tankers sensing impending electoral doom -- pop out of their pumpkins and upbraid the watered-on for complaining about being wet.

....

...Pay no attention to the recidivists behind the curtain who, once every two years or four or six, make grand promises of fealty to conservative and party principles only to repeatedly fail to deliver. ... What's the definition of insanity again? In this case it's constantly returning Republicans to power and having the audacity to expect different results. And what could be more stupid than that?

....

Look, folks, it's time to take a stand. Returning this current crew of Republicans to power will only embolden them to spend more time, not less, off the conservative reservation. This is no time to dance the Rationalization Rumba. It is time for the GOP base to deliver a very big SMACK. It's the only way to start the process of true Republican/conservative reclamation.

Fellow Republicans and conservatives, do what you must on Nov. 7. But I, for one, refuse to yet again enter my polling place, vote for the usual GOP suspects...

It's time for the long-spanked to do some spanking.

You can improve a winning team.

Now that's a point.

I can't help but wonder, though...once we've voted them in, what reason have they to listen to us?

I have plenty of great conservatives and critical ballot issues to support and give my time and energy to between now and November 7th.

In fact, there is so much to do that I have no time to worry about the fate of RINOs or those I want to "punish" for their lack of conservatism or leadership in past months and years.

Those battles can be fought on November 8th and beyond.

I think we would still be able to vote Republican because the Hildebeast would never make it out of the primaries as one.

Tell that to those who voted for Toomey to get rid of Specter in PA.

If we're part of a winning team that stands for not much of anything, what have we gained?

Last I looked, the Republicans currently in office stood for lower taxes, strong national security, banning partial birth abortion, trying to put judges in place who won't force the socialist agenda, at least trying to get voter id cards passed in various states, and fully supportive of capitalism.

The Democrats, on the other hand, support pulling our troops out of Iraq which means our young men and women have vided in vain, higher taxes, infanticide, judges who will force the Boy Scouts to accept pedophile leaders and other social experimentation which will ruin our young people, illegal voting, and socialism.

I predict you will control the Legislative and Executive branches within two years.

No wait...I'm pretty sure you already own the Legislative branch. but you lost the Executive branch this time out. Don't worry, after eight years you probably needed a break anyway.

LOL.

No DUmocrat can be trusted with power. LIEberman will still vote the same way, caucus with DUmocrats....right along with the Harry gReid and the DUmocrats. Also, I don't see how electing someone who wants Rumsfeld to step down helps the WOT.

The Liberaltarians are actually pretty active, and have been more so since the payjacking scandal. But with a third party requiring at least 10 times more candidate signatures in PA than the Big 2, it's a very unfair playing field. I'd love to support the Constitution party, but they don't do diddly squat most of the time.

You're not much of a conservative if you confuse the GOP with the conservative cause.

Does the "conservative cause" have a party?

When I go to the polls, where should I look for THEIR checkbox?

So they say...and there has been the occasional sop tossed our direction.

I don't know that we have all that much to show for six years of owning the Congress and the White House, however. We haven't accomplished much in terms of limiting the federal budget, maintaining border security, or limiting abortion...any kind of abortion.

Okay here is a question for any Freepers who would like to answer. I am a Conservative and hold my nose and vote Republican only because I don't see that I have much of a choice. I agree with basically everything said in this piece, but I have already voted and voted straight Republican except for our worthless, but unopposed Rep. Senator. Many if not most of the posters on here echo the Limbaugh screed about the dire consequences of not voting straight party ticket yet again this time. These are also many of the same people, I might add, who deride Blacks for voting straight Dem every election though the party treats them like step children, the same way Republicans treat Conservatives.

So here is my question. What are conservatives supposed to do? The common wisdom here is that voting 3rd party is tantamount to treason as is staying home. Limbaugh and others say work at the local level to support better candidates. Would that be candidates like Pat Toomey who the WH and other Republican big guns turned on like rabid dogs when he ran against that stalwart conservative Arlen Specter? Here locally we have a congressional candidate running who is a pretty good pick for a rather liberal district and would be replacing a total waste of vote Liberal, Socialist straight party incumbent, but since he defeated the party's pick in the primary they are doing nothing to support him. I have to believe that is the norm nationwide when you buck the party, which is definitely not conservative ideologically. So I am asking where do conservatives go and what do they do? I don't want to hear the standard "but do you want Pelosi to be Speaker" crap. I am an adult and don't react well to boogie man talk anymore. I want to know what a person who is a small government, pro-life, pro-gun, fiscal conservative, who is strong on national security but can see the flaws in our Iraq policy supposed to do. From what I read here and from what I get from Limbaugh and other party mouthpieces(and yes Rush that is what you are if you are reading this) is bend over, take it and be happy about it. I for one am tired of that, and I don't think I am alone.

Sorry about the length of the post. I hope I get some well-reasoned well-thought out responses.

We have to remember what's important.

We are thinking of what's important to this country.

If we're part of a winning team that stands for not much of anything, what have we gained?

If you think we stand for nothing and you can't tell the difference between the choices, perhaps you shouldn't vote, eh?
