We are all over the map this election season. Based on recent conversations, many of us are disgusted with new business taxes, toll road plans, inconsistent leadership on immigration and a general consensus that our leaders are out of touch with the grassroots.
There is a lack of faith out there. That is it. That faith is missing this year.
Yes, the economic numbers look good, but that awful feeling in your stomach won’t go away. It is worse than a bad sinus infection in South Texas.
My prediction: Conservatives will get out and vote this November but they want to take someone down. I can feel it. They want to show the elites in our party that we have the ability to take out one of our own. This prediction is based on the level of disgust people are experiencing.
Many of the devoted unpaid grassroots activists I’ve spoken to recently are astonished by the level of apathy out there. It seems like our troops are tired and fed up with the whole game.
It is my humble belief that they really want to be inspired and motivated to take action. Where is the torch they can follow?
My suggestion: Quit complaining about the officials you do not like. Get up and rally behind some of our tremendous officials and candidates out there. We have some really talented folks in this great state.
Host a small reception or hit your neighborhood with some “push cards”.
We could get wiped out if we stay home and sulk.

(F.Y.I. I believe that Secretary of State Roger Williams should take a sabbatical from his non-partisan job in the next few weeks. We need a coach who can rally the troops in these crucial hours. This will never happen but it would sure be nice.)

I am voting the straight Republican ticket, as I have done since 1972 at age 18. However, if the GOP runs an open borders Presidential candidate next year, I am going to write in KARL MARX!!

I'm worried that Tom Tancredo may lead a revolt against the GOP standard-bearer in 2008 giving the election to hitlary.
I see the Amnesty issue as the wedge that will splinter the center-right party and lead to the election of a farleftist. Tancredo could be the next Ross Perot, resulting in another 8 years of clintonism, squared. I don't think the Republic could survive it.

The Republic will not survive the wanton destruction of it's language and culture either. The House has at least ostensibly slapped Bush's face on open borders. Time will tell if the RNC is asleep at the wheel, or responsive to the 75% of Americans(including hispanic Americans) who want the borders secured.
The answer to this dilemma, as always, is the primary system. It' s too late for this year, but the answer is to do whatever you can to get a good conservative candidate to challenge a RINO, even if s/he is incumbent. It won't work all the time (see:Toomey vs Sphincter in PA) but in the long run it will strengthen the conservative caucus at the expense of RINO jerkwaters.

You and I are on the same wavelength, in that, whenever I think of Bela Pelosi, genital warts come to mind.
We still have to work to get a better group of candidates in '08. I think it is essential to have a dynamic conservative Presidential candidate, someone who can nationalize the election, energize the base, and bring the moderates in line while responding to the sniping from the press in a more effective way than Bush has.
However, if the Repubs do lose the House or Senate or both, the Dems will have overplayed their hands with Bush investigations and impeachment hearings, and possibly, pushing their cut in run policy for Iraq by trying to defund the Iraq war(Bush vetoes this), consequently, the Dems will lose big again in 08.
'My way or the highway' liberals brought the dems to defeat in 1994 and pretty much kept them out of power in Congress for most of the time up until now.
'My way or the highway' conservatives can do the same to the GOP.

I really don't think so. Remember the MSM will be making the strong case for the legitimacy of the impeachment hearings, and inevitable impeachment, of the President. Much as they kept Clinton popular by obfuscating the issues during his impeachment drama, they will bury Dubya by obfuscating the issues during his impeachment drama.
If the dems win control of Congress, the angle will be that this is a mandate against Bush. To be fair, that's a legitimate interpretation. The impeachment of Dubya will be a popular one, most likely. The result will be a very weakened GOP limping towards election 2008. I expect this atmosphere will lead to a more moderate GOP candidate, not a conservative one. Depending on who that is and who they are running against, he or she could still win.
But if the dems nominate a moderate democrat who is barely credible on national defense, they will run the board in the 2008 election, winning the presidency and making gains in Congress.
Losing Congress at this juncture is a disaster - make no mistake about it. If the dems win the House by more than 15 seats, the GOP won't control the House for a decade or more.
