North Korea clearly stated they would regard this as a "declaration of war". So lets see if they are as good as the promise here, as they were when they announced they planned a nuclear test.

This didn't work on Saddam, why would they think it will work on dear leader?
There is no such thing. There are treaties and there is war. This is an act of war, but the UN is not sovereign, so it is the countries who allied in this act of war who are at war. If N Kor does not respond in a warlike manner, they are incapable of making war.
Well, now we'll se what actual impact such sanctions have on NK. Will Russia and China actually participate? I'll be surprised if they do.

It is an act of war. The 'punish' thing was added by a journalist who does not have the primary conceptions either of the nature of the state or of psychology in hand.
If enforced, this will be the toughest resolution from the UN since Gulf War I.
I wonder if this is meaningful at all. I can't believe there was any trade with N. Korea. This agreement probably lets humanitarian aid through (which the army will steal) and if Iran was giving them weapons or tech before, I can't believe it was on the up-and-up. Even still, China could be a conduit for anything Lil Kim wants.
What matters is if China really wants to enforce its vote here.
UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- The U.N. Security Council on Saturday voted unanimously to impose sanctions against North Korea in response to the country's claimed nuclear test.
The vote was scheduled soon after negotiators agreed on the sticking point of cargo inspections, the language over which China had expressed some concerns earlier.
Rather than mandating stop and search operations, "the resolution will say to countries to inspect as necessary all goods going in and out of North Korea," CNN's Richard Roth reported.
I heard they typed the resolution in all caps! They're serious this time.

Despite the ranting from the Left, and Democrats in general, Bolton has pulled off the impossible; that is, getting China to agree to bring the matter before the Security Council in the first place. For the past 12 years, China has vetoed every attempt by the United States to bring North Korea before the Security Council. It took some persuading for that to change, and it is Bolton who deserves all of the credit for making that happen.
Maybe now we can persuade Senator Lincoln Chaffee, to lift his hold on Bolton's nomination to be permanent Ambassador to the United Nations. Now more than ever, it is vital to have someone with an even hand, and a persuasive voice in the UN. If that madman starts tossing warheads around, someone is going to have to respond. Best that we work with the UN to head things off before we get to that point...
For a country with the fith largest army in the world, thats got to be a pain.
