give CNN about 20 minutes, the Clinton team is being paged now to go into the CNN studios to be interviewed and to blame Bush.
that's why - when this USGS official word comes out in 30 minutes - GET TONY SNOW TO A MICROPHONE.

Does that mean the test is confirmed? No, it means that the geologists don't know what happened. There is raw data of seismic activity -- no magnitude, no location. It could be erroneous, it could be a natural event, it could be a test. The most important thing to do is not speculate. It is always easy for people to spin incomplete data -- but a wise observer waits to have a solid set of data prior to speculating. The USGS will have something official in about 30 minutes -- wait and see.

what good would sanctions do ???? they are an isolated society, dealing only with other rogue nations .. their people don't have food, don't have electricity .. what is the UN/world gonna do .. and I just read yesterday most of the NoKo staff has left UN/NYC.
They really shouldn't mess w/Japan tho! Japanese won't suffer this BS.

North Korea says nuclear test successful (AP/Reuters) Updated: 2006-10-09 10:46SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea said Monday it has performed its first-ever nuclear weapons test. The country's official Korean Central News Agency said the underground test was performed successfully and there was no radioactive leakage from the site.(Full Coverage on North Korea's Nuclear Crisis )
File IKONOS satellite image of the Yongbyon nuclear facility, located about 100 kms (62 miles) north of Pyongyang, taken August 13, 2002. North Korea has carried out an underground nuclear test, the North Korea's Central News Agency (KCNA) said on October 9, 2006. [Reuters] |
"The nuclear test is a historic event that brought happiness to the our military and people," KCNA said. "The nuclear test was conducted by 100 percent of our wisdom and technology," the agency said. "Our science research section has safely and successfully conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9," it said.
It added that there was no leak or danger from the test.
South Korea's presidential Blue House said a tremor had been detected in North Korea on Monday.
It said South Korea's Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources had detected a tremor of a magnitude 3.58 to 3.7 at 0135 GMT.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency said the test was conducted at 10:36 a.m. (9:36 p.m. EDT Sunday) in Hwaderi near Kilju city, citing defense officials.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun convened an urgent meeting of security advisers over the issue, Yonhap reported. North Korea said last week it would conduct a nuclear test as part of its deterrent against a possible U.S. invasion.

"I predict an incredibly strong UN Security Council sanction measure and I also anticipate a US blockade of North Korea (naval) and heightened alert for US forces Japan and US forces Korea."
Well, President Bush has said repeatedly that he won't allow NK to have nukes, and the asst. Sec of State said "North Korea has two choices - have nukes, or have a future" (my paraphrase). Those are pretty strong words, which makes me wonder if the Gov't is going to be content with the usual ineffective U.N. protest route. Scary stuff.

Us Geodetic Survey says that they have not detected any seiemic activity that would be consistent with a nuclear device on the Korean penninsula.

"If Korea has it, Iran now has it. Iran and Korea have been working very closely together on their joint Nuclear projects. This is absolutely horrific." I'm afraid you're correct. Europe has lots to worry about as well as the rest of the world.
