Full text of KCNA's statement about N. Korean nuclear test
(Kyodo) _ The following is the full text of a statement issued Monday by North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency on the North's nuclear test.
(The DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name.)
The field of scientific research in the DPRK successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions on October 9, Juche 95 (2006) at a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation. It has been confirmed that there was no such danger as radioactive emission in the course of the nuclear test as it was carried out under a scientific consideration and careful calculation.
The nuclear test was conducted with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 percent. It marks a historic event as it greatly encouraged and pleased the KPA and people that have wished to have powerful self-reliant defence capability.
It will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the area around it.
It's there .. LOL I saw it immediately.
And they wanted to be a supepower! They wanted to be the dominant power in Asia. Well look at them now. Taiwan going nuclear will make their embarassment complete. And their military might useless.

CNN has it all figured out already - it is all Bush's fault.
That was very easy to predict...as soon as they started their Bush bashing (6 party talks, 6 party talks, 6 party talks) I turned on Sports Center. F CNN.
"Possibly the same could be said of Iran."
I have considered this a given for a long time, and suspect they may also have ended up with some former soviet nukes post-USSR in addition to whatever else they have cobbled together over the years.
Wonderful! John Howard is such a true blue ally. He just made a fantastic speech. CNN covering all events live. BOO FOX!
This test proves, that UN and economic sanctions are unable to stop rogue countries from building Nukes. We should learn from this case and act different regarding Iran.
Biggest threat for the Western World is not Korea owning nuclear weapons, but their possession of blueprints building them, which they can secretly sell to other rogue countries or even to terrorists.
For all concerned, apparently the Dem Talking points are:
1) It's all Bush's fault for not holding one on one talks
and
2) October Surprise.
By the two stated theories I can only conclude the conspiracy theory is that he let the communist whacko get nukes by choosing a multilateral strategy (which strangely enough they don't seem to like here but bash us for not having blue helmets marching into battle in Iraq) that he knew wouldn't work so that on cue right before the 2006 mid-terms he'd phone said whacko and set off an alledged nuke test.
Inbetweem real world updates, MKH was having fun mocking the idiots now over here...

The other seismic stations that I've seen didn't really pick this up, but it seems to me that this is obviously a nuclear weapon or a large munition explosion. The fact that the wave has such a low frequency at 0141 UTC from a relatively clean seismometer makes it obvious that this was a sudden instanteneous release of energy (for those who are experienced in physics, this wavelength shouldn't be surprising considering that the Laplace transform of a Dirac Delta function is a decaying exponential--and the frequency does appear to die off exponentially). This record is the smoking gun for me.
This is amazing...wake up early to find CNN and EVEN MSNBC covering this live...but FOX has a reply of Bulls N Bears?!?! WTH is WRONG with them?

they are on the JonBenet Ramsey story still, ABC was got caught setting up a new story + I am sure someone has a book to sell
Well we knew this was coming.
I hope the South Koreans are very happy with their appeasement government today. Heck, they're liable to throw Kim Jong Il a parade to celebrate in downtown Seoul. After all, it's the Americans who are the aggressors, not their "brothers" from the north. Happy Chuseok, South Korea! (/sarcasm off)
Well they can't let this interrupt their coverage of the Foley story.
Well, if China really didn't want this to happen, they have certainly lost face on this one.
