You wonder what that kitten wants to download!

My neighborhood is absolutely gorgeous today!! Starting with tasty autumn air, it warmed up to 80 dry degrees today. Add fall colors and a cerulean sky and it's just about heaven.

How is your neighborhood? Warm up any?

Good afternoon, Kathy, Mozartlover, Randy and everyone.

What fun we had last night at the Dwight Yoakam concert last night. He did a very touching tribute to his buddy Buck Owens and Buck's first wife who past away about one month after Buck. She was a backup singer/wife for Merle Haggard.

The first time we saw Dwight was several years ago at The Hunter Mountain Country Music Festival. At that time he wore tight leather pants. The second time we saw him was at Vernon Downs. He wore tight jeans with holes in the knees. Last night he had a nice suit on...dang it! LOL In all honesty, it was a good show, but he appeared to be a bit subdued at least compared to the other shows. Of course, he and I are both much older. ;-)

From Topeka to Makasaib with love

BAGHDAD — Information is a powerful tool—one simple email can spread to thousands and impact hundreds of thousands or more.

Maj. Roger Aeschliman , 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry, National Guard, Kansas, and chief, Joint Visitor’s Bureau, Multi National Forces-Iraq, found out the power of a simple email first-hand.

As a result of his weekly e-mails, over $300,000 of medical, hygiene, school supplies and toys were donated to the town of Makasib, south of Baghdad, from his community in Topeka.

“I started writing a weekly e-mail back home on the first day of deployment…I sent it home to my wife and she in turn sent it to fifty or sixty relatives and friends,” said Aeschliman. “Over the course of the last ten months, the original fifty or sixty receiving my e-mail has increased to a hundred and those hundred send it on to five to twenty a piece. I have had third and fourth generation e-mail response, so I know it has (spread pretty far).”

Aeschliman said he believes he has about three to five thousand people reading his e-mail now.

The Topeka resident said he would receive boxes of goodies from his readers, and when in one of his weekly e-mails he asked them to stop sending him packages, some of the readers became upset. He said they wanted to help out, they wanted to feel like they were a part of it all.

Aeschliman, after consulting his public works officer, sent out a weekly update with a list of supplies his readers could send to help Makasib. The list contained basic essentials for hygiene and medical and it also included toys and school supplies for the children. The response was immediate.

“A lot of people started sending over postal boxes full of first aid products, over the counter medications, health care and hygiene products, and also toys, stuffed animals and soccer balls,” Aeschliman said. “So far it is about a hundred and twelve total boxes, ranging from the small eight dollar postage box up to some very large boxes that cost sixty to seventy dollars to ship over.”

The boxes received so far are just the tip of the iceberg.

The rest of the story

Thanks for the report. Bonnie Owens. Could the tribute be a reason for him being subdued?

Cheese Pizza
Traditional and comforting.
You focus on living a quality life.
You're not easily impressed with novelty.
Yet, you easily impress others.
