According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.
According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican, goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats.
The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the matter.
The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others.
The news come on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones.

Wow, went to get the kids and then had to catch up on 500 more posts! Okay, now I'm iffy on whether it was a prank or not. I can see it being a prank and suddenly realizing it caused a major problem later on when dem operatives used the info. But I can also see it being another closeted gay kid suddenly seeing his secret being outed. Guess I will just have to wait and see....
I have been saying all along that I thought that this page was playing Foley for a fool in those IMs, but don't believe for a minute that the IMs just fell into the wrong hands.
Here's something that was posted last night on the thread about the page hiring a lawyer.

Just posted on another thread. I was at my Wednesday Night Poker game when one of the guys who plays with us says you won't believe this story.
His son has been getting calls from all the networks and newspapers. Someone got his cellphone number. He happened to be one of the roommates with the page that has caused the whole stir.
First comment from son was that this page flaunted his gayness, everyone knew within 10 minutes of meeting him.
Second, the page was not nieve, he was out enjoying the scene and his preferences.
Third, there was not message to all pages about Foley, that was made up.
I guess all sorts of FUD is being spouted. His son has turned down all interviews and staying out of it. His son is very straight and very strong conservative.
Actually, the kid didn't mention his age. What he said was he wasn't old enough to drink but his ID said otherwise. He could have been talking about a fake ID to get into bars or it could have been his profile ID on the website.
Maybe Conservative viewer ship was just not elite enough for them...seems they couldn't get past that, "But why oh, why do the liberals not like us, too?" whine. :^(
Foley resigned. He's history. If he commited a crime, yes, he should go to jail. Will he get a trial first?

No, you have two different IMs confused. There is the one about the drinking thing. But then there is the one where he tells him he isn't 18 yet.
Do you understand that all I've done is make a provocative but rhetorical statement.
These people get in high dudgeon about what a gay guy is doing, but they have no solution to that problem ~ I simply propose a logical solution ~ ban gays ~ and we take it from there.
It is absolutely amazing how so few people have any idea what that might entail (besides the legal challenges it would present).
Still, you may have missed my post where I suggested would could also ban heterosexuals if that proved to be a problem, and we could still get all the Congressional candidates we needed if we required them to be spayed or neutered (as appropriate).
Have not yet gotten any takers for that one.
Well, if he *knew* he was contacting an 18-yo, that's a different matter. (Although are we sure about that? I'm sure it's what Foley will *claim*, of course.) It's still completely disgusting behavior (IM masturbation on the floor of the House? YUCK!!!), but not illegal, if the boy was of age. I'm still glad Foley resigned. It was certainly conduct unbecoming a Congressman.
