Will America’s mayor become America’s president? [WNBC/Marist Poll]

Will America’s mayor become America’s president? Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is one of the top Republican presidential contenders for 2008 and the only leading potential candidate, Democrat or Republican, that a majority of registered voters nationwide would like to see run for president. Many voters also see him as ideologically acceptable although this is fueled by 70% of Republicans who see him as politically about right. But voters divide over whether they think he will, in fact, run for president and many are not optimistic about his chances should he decide to do so.

When matched against the Democratic frontrunner, Senator Hillary Clinton, Giuliani leads by seven percentage points nationally. He receives 49% compared with 42% for Clinton. 9% of registered voters are undecided.

Okay so I assume you'll be voting clinton then. Or better yet not voting @ all.

I just never EVER will understand because the opposite is the other guy wins.

The Dims have made this country nuts enough. God forbid they regain the whitehouse anytime soon.

51% of registered voters characterize Rudy Giuliani as ideologically about right including 70% of Republicans and 55% of independent voters. Only 12% of Republicans think he is too liberal. 34% of Democrats think he is ideologically well positioned although 29% of Democrats view him as too conservative.

It may well take a middle-roader to win against Hillary and given a choice between McCain or Rudy... no contest in my mind -- Rudy.

Right the second time. I'll vote against him in the primary. I'll leave it blank in the general if he makes it.

I'd vote for a San Francisco street urchin before I voted for "The Beastianic".

Giuliani would not get there with my vote either. History is the example: Just look at the way Giuliani destroyed his family (wife and children). If Giuliani cannot be committed to those who love him most, what committment can he offer me, an American taxpayer?

Call me crazy but if he doesn`t run and the Witch does, I think the Witch will win. I mean who else has that kind of name recognition? I think it all depends what happens in the next 2 years, whether Bin Laden is finally found (to finally shut up the `Rats) and if Iraq settles down, just stuff that will give the `Rats no platform to bitch about and stretch. The most they could do then is give Hollywood spectaculars for the Witch, which will pretty much turn off people to the Witch. If not, we could see the full effects of liberalism dealing with Iran again but this time even worse Carter.

The last polls in 2000 when Rudy and Hillary were running against each other for the Senate had Hillary with a slight edge, though really it was a statistical dead heat. If Rudy can do nearly that well in NY against Clinton for President, she's dead meat. And he might actually do better.

As Churchill said in 1940, if Hitler invaded Hell, Churchill would at least make a favorable reference to Satan in Parliament. That's about how I feel here - I don't care if Rudy is moderate, he's a far sight better than any Clinton.

Run Rudy Run!

Hannity had an interesting theory. He said that Hillary is so scared of Rudy that she is trying to do background work on him. He said that the NY democrats wiretapped Bernie Kerik because they were trying to get to the big fish - Rudy!

As long as big hips doesn't get into the White House, I will vote for Donald Duck if I have to.

He won't get there with my vote.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I remember how Gulliani dumped his wife and family , via the press, without any prior arrangements, in order to take up with his mistress, now current wife. He just is not presidential material.

I agree. Rudy is not all we want but he's what we need. An electable leader who's tough on crime, and terror, and lived through the eye of the storm in NYC. He's a proven defender of the republic. The rest is stuff we are going to have to live with if he surfaces as the most likely candidate. All his skeletons are already out there and the rest of the challengers are too risky to take a chance on. Would the red states choose a dem over rudy? I think not. He might even win over some blue states.

So you'd prefer these two back in the White House?
