And that is something we could probably truly provide factual back up for here on FR...if Foley had been a hot female then there would be men on here saying it was just normal that this 17 year old would go after her. The age thing would suddenly disappear. I'm personally disgusted by both scenarios myself.

Of course the Dems are exploiting the Foley case for all it's worth. That's what any political party would do. It's given them a seat win in the House, so--from their point of view--why not cry 'cover-up' and cause even more damage among the opposition. But therein lies the problem: how long did the media and/or the Dems know about Foley's behavior before it was exposed? Did lots of people know what he was doing--to children--and decide to sit on the info so they could spring an October Surprise?

If a pedophile was writing suggestive or outright sexually charged messages to my 14-year-old daughter or 12-year-old son, I would find them and hurt them. Such contact with pedophiles is damaging to children--even 16-year-old congressional pages who are, after all, still kids. Further, if I knew that someone else had knowledge of the pedophile's behavior and did nothing until they could use that information to best advantage, I would find them and hurt them, too.

This whole deal is just sickening.

I don't think most people consider sex with an adult the same thing as sex with a 16-year-old. then why is the age of consent in DC 16. If your theory was correct the age of consent woiuld be higher, but it is not.

I believe the age of consent in some states is 14. That doesn't mean that most people consider sex with an adult the same thing as sex with a 14 year old. Same thing with a 16-year old. Is it logical? Obviously not or the law would match the mores, but clearly, that's the way it is. How many people do you know that would consider a 50+ man having sex with a 16-year old the same thing as him having sex with a 30-year old?

The scandal is that the Democrats are in an uproar because the House leadership knew that Foley had shown an interest in a young man who is a Congressional page, and they did not let the local Boy Scout troop know that he would make a great new Scoutmaster. They find this intolerant. /sarc
