The PET scan came back this week showing what the Radiologist described as fantastic results. It showed no cancer anywhere in my body. That has to be the result of everyones prayers. Thank you all and God Bless you all.
However the Radiologist wants to do radiation treatments on my brain. That would cause brain damage that results in loss of memory and the ability to concentrate.
I am strongly considering refusing the treatment. The radiation is referred to as a safety step. There is no cancer that is showing but there may be some cancer cells left in my brain.
Personally I would rather be dead than mentally impaired. The radiologist was not all that straight with me. I asked him how long I had to live if I refused radiation treatment and he said 2 months. I think that is not the case. Going from no cancer to enough to kill one takes more than two months. It would likely take 6 months to a year.
I have an appointment this Monday with the oncologist that saved my life 9 years ago. 9 years ago I went to the Cleveland Clinic, and the Ohio State University James Cancer Center. Both told me I had no chance. The best they could do was extend my life by a month or two. Dr. Roach at Chillicothe hospital recommended what at the time was an experimental CHEMO that he said had about a 15 percent chance of killing the cancer and an 85 percent chance of killing me. I took the chance and won.
We now know the lesion that was in my brain was the same cancer that was in my lung 9 years ago. We know that the Chemo taken back then killed the cancer. I plan to talk to Dr. Roach about taking some of that Chemo as a safety factor.
They usually go with radiation because they know it always has some effect at reducing cancer. CHEMO sometimes works and sometimes does not. But we know for a fact that the CHEMO we used in 1997 will kill the cancer in my body. So that is what I am going to ask him to prescribe.
At this stage being alive with a brain that can not concentrate or remember what it should is not something I can accept.
I will know Monday afternoon what Dr.Roach thinks.
