What? Because I make one post that possibly hints that these scandals remind me of 1994? And I recently signed up? That means I am a troll?
Meanwhile, you "old timers" post one bogus poll (that were proven wrong in 2004 and 2002) after another saying "NOT GOOD!!!!" "WE'RE IN TROUBLE!!!!", but it is somehow okay because of the sign-up date?
Look for the Dems to try to make hay of this, as in:
"This reminds us that the Republicans can talk the talk on family values, but they can't walk the walk. We are the party that can make sure the Republicans don't starve your kids or get your sons killed in Iraq."
On the other hand, whenever the Dems try to make hay of anything, they go too far and alienate voters in their usual out-of-touch way.

Between this and the Woodward book, not good, but by now, the Repubs know what to expect, just batten down the hatches and forge ahead.
Too bad the Gertz book won't get as much press as Woodward's slam bam "tell all" on the war on terror.

Oh, I agree 100%. If there was propositioning going on it was totally inappropriate...but, if 16 is the legal age of consent in DC, and sodomy isn't illegal, was a criminal offense committed (assuming there was ever sex)? It's similar to what keeps coming around on the "naughty teacher" threads around here. If a teacher ends up sleeping with a 16-year-old student, and sex with a 16-year-old is legal in that state, is there grounds for any punishment other than administrative punishment by the teacher's employer?
If Foley really was cruising for male pages (*gag*), at the very least I'd love to see all his benefits and pension yanked if he had one coming to him. But until we know more, I don't think we can say something criminally prosecutable happened.

If he had been a democrat, barney frank would have been on the airways by now, saying there is a "whiff of fascism in the air" like he did during the 2000 election in Palm Beach county.
I read the emails when I first heard of this. I don't see anything wrong with them! What is wrong with a congressman taking a personal interest in a page? Should adults avoid all contact with children to avoid allegations of impropriety? What is this world coming to??
Mark Foley was a remarkably effective congressman. The only troubling aspect is that he resigned, which may mean that further scrutiny would have revealed something questionable. But on the facts as they stand now, there is no evidence that anything inappropriate transpired!
The double standard is staggering. Barney Frank's gay lover can run a gay prostitution ring out of his basement, the DemonRats can have a former KKKer who dropped the N Bomb very recently, etc...etc...etc... but our guys resign at the drop of a hat on mere allegations. It makes me so mad I can SPIT!!! Hopefully, this will backfire big time on Foley's Rat opponent.
