REP. RANGEL BLASTS CHAVEZ: DON'T ATTACK MY PRESIDENT
Drudge ^ | September 21, 2006 | Drudge Reporting

Posted on 09/21/2006 10:18:07 AM PDT by Blogger

RANGEL: AN ATTACK ON BUSH IS AN ATTACK ON ALL AMERICANS... 'You do not come into my country, my congressional district, and you do not condemn my president. If there is any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not. I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president, but do not come to the United States and think because we have problems with our president that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our Chief of State'...

They have to have poll numbers saying this is what the American people want.

Actually, they have internal polls that are showing that Americans cannot believe that ANY politician, right or left, has not come to the defense of the USA and President Bush.

The Dims are now trying to take advantage of the vacuum left where Republicans should have been. The Dims do not mean what they are saying, do not believe what they are saying. They are trying to gain political points by getting our in front of the silent Republicans....and it might just work on the peeples.

As pointed out by Rush just now on radio, Rangel has a very conciliatory tone to his "plea" to Chavez. No passion, essentially. "Please Mr. Chavez, we Democrats & Leftists are more than capable of lambasting our President, so if you don't mind, if you'd kindly reconsider your pose, please let US be the ones to try to destroy the President. Just don't come over to our country to do what we Democrats are trying to do. We can handle it. OK? Besides, if YOU say it here, then we're duty-bound to contradict you, and we don't really want to do that. Capisc?"

The only thing that was real was the press conference. Rangel's defense of President Bush is nothing short of empty.

If the docudrama Path to 911 didn't do it, the visit by Ahmanutjob and Hugo the walking bullet target should have pushed the Republicans over the top for the fall. You just can't buy campaign ads as good as "the smell of sulfur".

What is the average IQ at DU? about a 2 (and that is for the head lice). Chavez has been saying this kind of garbage for a long time. This time, he said it in the US. There is the difference. Bush criticizes the murderous dictators of the world - but not on their soil. As a matter of fact, he considers their soil contaminated by their presence and won't even visit until our boys (and girls) in uniform have fumigated the place of their presence.

Wow, I didn't know old Charlie had it in him.

He doesn't. It's all a bunch of BS to wow people who've never voted for him in the first place.

"Hey, he can't do that to our President."

"Yeah, only WE can do that to our President."

Where are the republicans? Why have they not issued any sort of statement?

Precisely ... where are they? This tepid " We will not dignify President Chavez's remarks with a response ..." BS by Rice and Bolton doesn't come close to being a strong enough response. This POS Chavez should be roundly and emphatically told where to get off by leading Republicans.

The last time that happend it was September 11, 2001, and even that was short-lived.

I think Bolton's "comic strip" comment said all that was needed.

I saw that on Fox this morning too. Great line! Bolton was dead on target with his assesment and justification of no response to Chavez.

Wow, I didn't know old Charlie had it in him.

He doesn't. It would be one thing if he meant it. It is quite another to do it because internal polls show that Americans are outraged that no politicians came to the defense of the country and the President and the Dims decided there is a political advantage.

Rangel spoke nice words, but there was no emotion behind them, no outrage.

Now, just watch how many Republicans miraculously come out condemming Puto Chavez.

But Wednesday's spotlight was Chavez's address to the General Assembly, in which he called Bush "the devil."

His fiery, theatrical address drew sharp criticism from Clinton.

"Hugo Chavez said something that was wrong yesterday, unbecoming a head of state," the former president told NBC's "Today" show Thursday. "All that name-calling is undignified and not helpful, and it's not true."

Why would the republicans give Chavez any credibility at all. He's a buffoon, not worthy of comment.

Lets give Rangel credit for having balls.

Never. Rangel has said far worse about President Bush in the past 5 years and a helluva lot worse about Republicans in his entire time in public office at a more personal level. Rangel ain't a uniter, he's a divider ala Sharpton.

Good analysis ... leading Pubbies (like McCain for instance) should have nailed this SA tin horn dictator right between the running lights for his remarks at the UN.

Also, we should not be congratulating the Demoncrats for these poll-driven antics; we should be pointing out that they regularly say much worse things than Chavez said and hammer them for it.

Exactly right. I may grow old waiting for it, but you're exactly right. And it needs to be said by congressional Republicans (like Boehner), and backed up by his colleagues. (yeah, right)

From the sound up in Long Island out to San Francisco Bay
And ev'ry thing that's in between them is our home
And we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourselves
But you outside people best leave us alone

Cause we'll all stick together and you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies and the rebels and the yanks
You just go and lay your head on a Pittsburgh Steeler fan
And I think you're gonna finally understand
