Duane 'Dog' Chapman Says Feds Sold Him Out to Mexico in Exchange for Drug Lord
Fox News ^ | 19 September 2006

Mexico - where bounty hunting is illegal - claims Chapman jumped bail after being charged with illegally detaining Luster in June 2003.

A new special about last week's arrest will air tonight (10 p.m.) on A&E.

Chapman, who is out on $300,000 bail, said on yesterday's "Today" show that if he goes to prison in Mexico, he will be killed by inmates avenging the thousands of fleeing felons he's brought to justice.

"I won't last two days," he said.

Yeah, he'd probably run. He doesn't know a thing about bail bonds and lawyers does he? He lives on an island, and of course he's not at all recognizable, is he?

But I like your busy scenario better. Sure, that's what happened. They were just so busy the next day they had to break into his house that night.

Then feds busted in the door and arrested him - sending him back to Mexico. Then he was sent to a US Federal PEN for a time period, then had to pay a $300K bail, and was restricted to home monitoring. And after all that, he STILL is facing charges in Mexico?

When Dog was arrested (recently) he was held in Hawaii. He was let out on bail from Hawaii. He has not stepped foot back in Mexico since he was bailed 3 years ago. The home monitoring, etc. is a condition of the bail, not the punishment for his alleged crime.

This just can't happen. They have to let the Dog go. Our government should have never had him arrested.

You need to think about the political ramifications of this one and the legals ones also.

Something stinks to high hell over his arrest. I will be following this story now.

Strangely it smells clintonesque

You and Rita Cosby will be following it.

This whole thing is beyond absurd when Rita Cosby is in the mix.

JMO, I never saw a bunch of more self-centered wannabe martyrs than the Chapman family.

Sheesh all he had to do was not skip the bail and face the charges and the Mexican Judge probably would have let him go with a minor fine, due to the publicity.

But the Chapman's did their job, they suckered me into watching their show.

I think the Judge agreed to him not being a flight risk with a big bond. Before they got him in custody there was no such determination.

I liked what the other fellow said about catching them at work. Seemed easy enough to me as well, but we don't know if they have 3 shifts of 8 hours that have to take people in?

At least they didn't hurt anyone going in there.

I think we all need to think about the legal and political ramifications of this. The Mexican government was giving shelter to a known criminal that was on the most wanted list in the USA. The guy was entirely too visible and they knew who he was, they weren't going to do a thing, they were making too much money off him.

Remember this:

"Manuel Noriega, former president of Panama, rescued by American marines for incarceration in the United States."

linky: http://www.mugshots.org/misc/manuel-noriega.html

Let's just say Dog just rescued the rapist for incarceration in the US. Why not?

Self-centered? Yeah, people who catch crooks are usually self-centered./ sarc

I think had Dog caught Luster in any other country than Mexico, he would have complied with all the rules. I wouldn't rely on Mexican government to do the right thing either.

Why isn't Drudge or World Net Daily covering this story?

I mean Drudge had a stupid story about some anorexic looking models on his sight for a few days but very little about a U.S. citizen being arrested on behalf of a corrupt Mexican government.

I will continue to pray for Dog and his family's safety during this difficult time.

And he was in jail for one night, but the way he played his violin on the show, he talked as he had been in there for 10 years.

I agree with you Dianna.  And I wouldn't trust our government either.  I heard the U.S. government is appealing his bail.

So Messico wont send convivted murderers here because they will be legally executed.

Why are we sending a misdemeanor case to them to be illegally executed?

Because Mexico is testing the "contracts" that were signed to bring about the new world order.

Bail for 'Dog' will likely be appealed "

The U.S. attorney's office will probably appeal last week's decision allowing Duane "Dog" Chapman and two others to be free on bond pending extradition hearings to send them back to Mexico to face illegal detention charges.

Larry Butrick, assistant U.S. attorney in charge of criminal cases for the U.S. attorney's office, said "in all likelihood," the office will appeal, but he wants to wait for the return tomorrow of Ronald Johnson, the assistant U.S. attorney handling the case who is out sick.

The appeal would be filed with a U.S. district judge here.

Chapman, 53, star of the popular A&E reality show "Dog the Bounty Hunter"; his son Leland Chapman, 29; and Timothy Chapman (no relation), 41, were arrested by federal marshals Thursday morning on an extradition warrant requested by the Mexican government.

The three are wanted in Mexico to face charges related to their capture three years ago of fugitive and convicted rapist Andrew Luster in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The charges carry potential sentences ranging from six months to four years, lawyers in the case said.

The extradition hearings are expected to span months and could spill over into next year, according to the lawyers.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren, who signed the warrant, released the three Friday afternoon. Duane Chapman posted $300,000 bond and the other two $100,000 each. In addition, the three were ordered confined to their homes except for business reasons while working with Duane Chapman's Da Kine Bail Bonds or on the television series.

Court papers submitted in the case recently unsealed outlined many of the arguments made Friday before Kurren.

Attorney Brook Hart, who represents the Chapmans, provided backgrounds on all three to show that they have strong ties with the community here and would not flee.

Duane Chapman, Hart said, has lived in Honolulu since 1989 and resides at his Portlock home with his wife, Beth Chapman, 38; five of his children; two of his grandchildren; and a stepson.

Duane Chapman and his wife own Da Kine Bail Bonds, Hart said. If the three aren't released, they would be prevented from supporting themselves and their families and won't be able to fulfill their contractual obligations to the A&E cable network, which airs the series.

On behalf of the Mexican government, Johnson said he was asking that the three be held without bail.

He argued the status of the three as reality television figures should not set them apart from any other person who has a job and faces extradition.

Johnson said the ability to deliver fugitives through extradition proceedings has "significant international law implications."

He said the United States expects its fugitives to be returned just as other countries expect the United States to deliver their fugitives.

"This obviously cannot be fulfilled if fugitives like (the Chapmans) flee after being released on bond," he said.
