Katie Couric CBS 'EVENING NEWS' premiered with a 9.1 household, metered market rating and fell continuously (each day) thereafter: 9.1--7.0--6.5--4.9. Friday's household rating earned Katie third place... Developing
OMG!....MY EYES! MY EYES!...............
Looking cute and perky isn't enough. There has to be some substance behind the cute face to get people to watch "America's sweetheart" read the news.
"SHOCK", "DISMAY" - ok, not really, "yawn".
The alphabet networks are all quaking in their boardrooms right about now, lol.
She must be from that other America someone was talking about...
In case you didn't get to read the transcript from Rush here's what he said:

My friends, it's time to face a hard, cold fact. Militant Islam wants to kill us just because we're alive and don't believe as they do. They've been killing us for decades. So it's time to stop pretending these terrorist incidents are mere episodic events and face the reality that our way of life is in grave danger. This threat is not just going to go away because we choose to ignore it. Some say we should try diplomacy. Yeah, well, tell me, how do we negotiate with people whose starting point is our death? Ask them to wait for ten years before they kill us? When good negotiates with evil, evil will always win and peace follows victory, not words issued by diplomats. But some Americans, sadly, not interested in victory, and yet they want us to believe that their behavior is patriotic.
Well, it's not. When the critics are more interested in punishing this country over a few incidents at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay than they are in defeating those who want to kill us; when they seek to destroy a foreign surveillance program which is designed to identify those who want to kill us and how they intend to do it; when they want to grant those who want to kill us U.S. constitutional rights, I don't call that patriotic. Patriotism is rallying behind the country, regardless of party affiliation to defeat Islamofascism. Patriotism is supporting our troops in the battlefield, not undermining the mission and morale. Let there be no doubt about this: America will prevail. We're the same country that survived a bloody civil war, defeated the Nazis and the Soviets. Each generation has a responsibility to the next, our generation will not disappoint.
BUMP!
King of Queens has more likability that Couric.
Thanks for that....a wonderful speech and of course, very true. Like you said, she should have Rush on every night and the ratings would be better.
While I myself am not in the business, some very good friends of mine owned quite a few stations around the country until recently. They ALWAYS made money from the news. It was the cheapest programming to produce. I have a hard time imaginging that small independents could make the most of their income (bottom line that is not total revenue) from News while the big networks lose at it?
She has a CONTRACT....she's not going anywhere, but we can sure make it UNPLEASANT for her!!
This commodity is experiencing expotential downward pressure due to a dismal Q and and absymal K, putting it in danger of stalling, and possibly delisted, where it will flounder on the Pink Sheets.
Still, investors should be alert to a momentary Dead Kat Bounce, should it happen.

So far Katie seems to be using the Bryan Gumball Career Model to reach oblivion asap.
Already 3rd place? Delicious!
But now she'll bring out the daggers against Bush, figuring that's what's necessary to get her ratings up.
Better yet, they should have picked Rush, or someone like him, to be the anchor.
But lib MSM puts their silly ideology even before money, it seems.
I'm guessing the honeymoon is over.
Keep up the good work Katie! We're all counting on you! (stealing line from "Airplane" w/ sarc)
I agree completely. I can't wait to hear what 'sign off' she comes up with....should be pretty funny. I think it speaks volumes that the whole staff at CBS is not creative enough to think up a 'sign off'. However, I have read some pretty funny ones at FR....:)
You are correct. Local news programming is very profitable for television stations. Small staff, small budget - how much effort to film car wrecks and fires?
Much different for networks. Huge, expensive sets, bureaus - hundreds of editors, writers, factotums and assistant-to's. Plus, small viewerships in relation to entertainment programs. Less viewers = lower ad rates. Network news is history...
