Katie Couric CBS 'EVENING NEWS' premiered with a 9.1 household, metered market rating and fell continuously (each day) thereafter: 9.1--7.0--6.5--4.9. Friday's household rating earned Katie third place... Developing
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
Katie's ratings are dropping faster than Dan Rather's credibility.
Can they do the digital "nip/tuck" thing in real-time? If she does the news naked, we had better hope so!
In another year, she'll be on the wrong side of 50. How's that for a prospect CBS? If I was Rupert Murdoch, I would tart up some 20 something blonde bimbo, put her in a bikini and have her read the news. Can you say ratings bonanza?
Her 15 minutes of fame was up long ago. Besides who watches TV network news anymore?
We've gotta start a Dead Pool.
The curiosity factor having ended, there's no surprise she took a nose dive in the ratings. I'm sure they hoped it wouldn't go straight to the bottom in one week.
Either that, or show everyone her innards.
All of us here called it a long time ago. Imagine if they used the Fox News model, where they would present items in a fair way and without the obvious hatred for all things that are to the right of Fidel Castro. They would overrun both NBC and ABC in a month or two.
That's an easy one, they'll determine the reason for the slide is she's being too nice and not asking the tough questions of Bush. They will say, hey we have to stop being cowed by this administration and stop acting like we're the propoganda arm of the West Wing. We need to take off the kid gloves and lay bare all of the lies, obsfucation and tell the American people the truth...this President is a threat to our security.
Then they can sit back and watch their ratings climb. (sarcasm off)
Courage!
That would be a re-run,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It's too early to sign the death warrant, IMO...she may surprise us all.
Apparently the CBS higher-ups forgot to watch her coverage of the 9-11 attack before they signed her up.
This morning I watched on MSNBC the rebroadcast of NBC's coverage on 9/11. Couric was appallingly bad --- emotionless grave tone (apparently demonstrating range --- as opposed to "perky"), making comments void of perception and historical depth. To give you an idea of how bad it was, Matt Lauer had to carry the commentary til Brokaw arrived.
NO ONE will turn to NBC at a time of critical breaking news (as opposed to the "we-caught-JonBenet's-killer" kind) with her at the helm.
Heck, I'd settle for "fair and balanced", an objective which even Fox fails to meet most of the time.
there used to be a perky something personality show host on Big Network TeeVee back in the 20th century named Katie. I wonder if she's related?
"Either that, or show everyone her innards."
""That would be a re-run,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,""
I think her best move would be an on air gynecological exam.
