I didn't hear if anyone was planning for a live thread of the film tonight. Just in case anyone wants to start early. Some in Australia already have seen part 1. Part 1 airs tonight at 8pm Eastern Time on ABC.
DouchebagUnderground is demanding that Sandy Berger sue ABC for defamation. This is absolutely hilarious.
What's that ugly thing attached to that zit?
The plane to which Carter refers was an aircraft chartered by the Saudi government in the days after the terrorist attacks. The individuals were two dozen members of Osama bin Laden's extended family who had been living in the United States. Saying they were afraid that family members might suffer retribution in the U.S., the Saudis asked for American assistance in getting them out of the country. With the help of the FBI, the Saudis and the bin Laden family chartered an aircraft to pick up family members in Los Angeles, Orlando, and Washington, D.C. The bin Laden plane then flew the relatives to Boston, where one week after the attacks the group left Logan Airport bound for Jeddah.
**snip***
But the bin Ladens did not have to worry about that. While FBI agents looked into bin Laden family members in the Boston area immediately after September 11, it appears that the agents' first chance to interview them or other family members who lived elsewhere in the country came on the day they left the U.S. Each family member was given the all-clear on the basis of a single, day-of-departure interview conducted, in Bill Carter's words, "at the airport, as they were about to leave."

You betcha ;)

Flash them!
Michael Scheuer, former CIA agent who is opposed to the war in Iraq but has said in recent days that the Clinton administration had 10 opportunities to take out OBL, is portrayed in this movie as Alec.
Clarke has also exchanged criticism with Michael Scheuer, former chief of the bin Laden Unit at the Counterterrorist Center at the CIA. When asked to respond to Clarke's claim that Scheuer was "a hothead, a middle manager who really didn't go to any of the cabinet meetings," Scheuer returned the criticism as follows: "I certainly agree with the fact that I didn't go to the cabinet meetings. But I'm certainly also aware that I'm much better informed than Mr. Clarke ever was about the nature of the intelligence that was available against Osama bin Laden and which was consistently denigrated by himself and Mr. Tenet."[7] Matthew Continetti writes: "Scheuer believes that Clarkes risk aversion and politicking negatively impacted the hunt for Bin Laden prior to September 11, 2001. Scheuer stated that his unit, codename 'Alec,' had provided information that could have led to the capture and or killing of Osama bin Laden on ten different occasions, only to have his recommendations for action turned down by senior intelligence officials, including Clarke."[8] Despite this heated exchange, Scheuer agrees with Clarke's main thesis that the invasion of Iraq was a fatal diversion from the war against al Qaeda.
I've been looking for him, but I think Monica's head is in the way.
HI!!!
Signed,
With Love,
Me!
Oh yeah ... but his version of that (IIRC) is that he tried to tell GWB and Condi about it and they ignored him.
More BS. Rush warned that Clarke would be the hero of this movie ...
Oh, my.. That's funny. Wonder if Hillary had that painted on (smile).
They can demand all they want, but they deserve all they get. I'm taping "The Path to 9/11" for viewing Tuesday night.
Do I have to take a shower now that DU reposted my comment from this thread? I feel so used.
Clinton citing - on the tube (giving speech) in O'Neill's FBI office while they talk ...
Clarke has been criticized by conservatives for suggesting the possibility of a link between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda and after investigation concluding that no link had been established. Regarding Saddam's offer of safehaven in Iraq, Clarke wrote in a January 1999 memo to Sandy Berger that he was concerned that old wily Usama will likely boogie to Baghdad. (p. 134)[9] Clarke also made statements that year to the press linking Saddam and al-Qaeda and an alleged joint chemical weapons development effort at the Al Shifa pharmaceutical plant in Sudan.[10]
