Crude futures drop more than a dollar in late afternoon sell-off to $67.50 a barrel. More soon.

I remember when there was no such thing as self-serve, and one of the big oil companies had a policy that if the attendant did not clean your windshield and offer to check the oil, "your gasoline purchase is free."
That was a few years back too.
If you remember that, then you probably remember when Fina offered pink air. This was while the corporate motto was, "Work hard, sell a good product, and don't try to kid anybody."
uh... thanks for conceding that the economy of the 90s was lousy world-wide, with the sole exception of the US.
Now, can you get the necessary implication that that with their economies being better, and their purchase of more oil, the price of oil will, indeed MUST, rise to balance the supply-demand curve?
You could be right about CA, but I doubt it.
It's been "per gallon" historically so it was easy for people to calculate and/or set gas pumps/signs as wholesale prices change.
(Used to own a bunch of 7-Elevens. You don't get the best-and-brightest sometimes.)
California taxes fuel 18 cents per gallon, and then adds state sales tax after that.
ohhhhhh... we thought maybe you had one of those time machines LOL
The weak hurricane season is also helping. Many speculators were counting on a strong hurricane year, which by now is clearly not going to materialize.
Yeah, the F250 has to wait until my wife sells a few more books.
I never typed the world economy was good, just that the US economy was good (at least that's what I was implying). But again, oil prices didn't cause the bad economy, assuming that's what your premise is.
Got that right. This particular coworker blames everything on President Bush. Seriously, he blamed the fact that he had to wait in line at the post office on a Saturday morning on the president.
Ah, do it both ways.
How amazingly stupid and complex (but that is CA gov. for you).
That's a valid point. Development of these alternatives is taking more time than we might like, and money, too, apparently. Seeing Big Oil with no profits at all for a couple quarters might make a big cut in that development.
China must have filled its emergency supply tanks.
I can remember paying 14.9 for regular and 15.9 for premium (and a $1.04 for a carton of Marlboros). That was in 1970.
In February, often, the best month to buy cars, I bought my wife the same Malibu except it was the Convertible without the high compression heads and dual exhausts with the standard V8.
We had a 1992 Nova II convertible with less than 10,000 miles. The Dealer wanted $1200 more plus the trade in. This was in Norfolk.
I told him that I would give him 800 in cash plus the paid off Nova II. He said no, and I gave him my phone # and said I would give him $600 if he waited until I got home. I told him that no Navy single guys would buy that car without dual mufflers and the power pack. I showed him 8 c notes. He waivered and then said no. I gave him my name and phone #, and we left.
My wife was near tears when we left. It was a lonesome ride home. When we got home, the phone was ringing, and it was the dealer trying for the $800. I told him if I hung up, my offer went down another $200 to $400. He said he needed to think about it. I gave him 10 seconds and started with one thousand and one. I got to one thousand and three, and he agreed. I informed him that I was in the Navy and any bait and switch when we picked up the new car would cost them big time. He said the price was firm.
I told my wife to dry her eyes and lets go get her new car. I wore my uniform down for the exchange. The price was right with the 6 C notes and the Nova II. We sold it 8 years later for what we paid for it.
But, but, Hydroshock and ex-texan have said that rates will soon be at 17% and that EVERY home will soon be worth about $100... SELL NOW, PANIC...WE'RE DOOMED!!!!!!!!
Dang, it was $2.399 here last week. Wonder what it will be the next day or so.
He just set the Rovian time machine to forward.
