Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.
Police allege that the parents had bound their daughter with rope around her feet and hands and forced her into their car Friday morning.
The daughter told investigators in Maine that her parents assaulted her after they found out she was pregnant, Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion said yesterday. She told police her parents tied her up and were planning to take her to New York state for an emergency abortion, he said.

Finally, as I've said before, there are good doctors and bad doctors, good hospices and bad hospices, etc. The ones that Terri got stuck with thanks to Judge Greer were hospice docs, euthanasia docs and euthanasia lawyers. Terri was overwhelmed by the euthanasia agenda not by any disease process. Her organs couldn't be harvested because after dehydration, every part of the body turns to rock, every organ too. Dehydration is gruesome and inhumane.
The only candidates for governor are pro-euthanasia even thought euthanasia is illegal in Florida. It's going to get worse here when Jeb turns the place over to the next guy.
The agenda came first. The euthanasia agenda had to get a foothold in Florida which is why Terri was hidden from view. It was such a big lie.
The videotape of Terri following instructions should have been enough to stop the euthanazi's but the lies were boldfaced and backed up by the propagandist media.
The truth is that Terri was murdered.

Terri was never represented by counsel either. She had no constitutional rights. Judge Greer violated the law by acting as judge and guardian. She's not his relative and he should have recused himself. The agenda was to bump her off and deflect any motions to improve her care or allow her to live.
Terri's wheelchair was broken for years. Judge Greer knew it and he never ordered it fixed. There's no way Judge Greer wanted Terri to ever go outside or be with other people who would see that she was alert and aware. Judge Greer belongs in prison. He's the worst offender.

Reading the article in #1, I was confused about their (purposeful?) inaccuracy here:

Haleigh's "foster home/adoptive parents" were her own biological AUNT and aunt's boyfriend, who is Haleigh's stepfather - who is now facing criminal charges because of Haleigh's condition.

We have in archive a lot of background on the case as well and certain posters here can recite it in detail and answer most any question.

It sounds to me like it's you who are completely ignorant. You are working with "definitions" that are in a constant state of flux. Science and medicine have not evolved to the point where we even know what any of this really means. It's like Roe vs. Wade and the discussions about "viability" and when does life begin. Even the idiots on the majority Roe court didn't have the arrogance to say that they or medical science could answer those questions so they erred on the side of the mother's health. You, on the other hand, should enshrine your arrogance. I think you'll be amazed to look back and realize how ignorant you actually were.
The definition of "brain death" has been the same since 1982, when the criteria for brain death were first written. The Glasgow Coma Scale was published in 1974 and is still in use. Persistant vegetative state was described in 1940. Locked-in syndrome was described in 1959.
Rapidly changing, huh? None of these definitions have changed during my life time. The only thing new is the recent discovery that some patients in vegetative states retain awareness of the outside world. Fortunately this is easily determined by EEG.
Euthanasia, baby-killing, and the coerced endorsement of deviant sexuality are not "moderate."
Unless you call extreme evil moderate.

From what I have read about this case, I have come to the conclusion that: Judge Greer and Michael were friends. They/Michael made sure she never got the care or rehab that might have helped. Michael did not want her to recover or he would have given custody of Terri to her parents. I still think that if Terri had come around she would have had things to tell that would have seen Michael going to jail. Greer and Michael murdered Terri while using the law to cover their crime.
