Haleigh Poutre Almost Victim of Euthanasia, Now Making Good Progress
Life News ^ | September 4, 2006 | Steven Ertelt

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.

Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.

She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."

"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.

Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.

"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.

"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.

DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.

Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.

"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.

Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.

Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.

DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.

Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.

Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.

Lifeless in Seattle...

The death advocates in Washington State seek to follow the footsteps of euthanasia state, Oregon and establish their own killing fields.

Olympia, WA (LifeNews.com) -- Former Washington Governor Booth Gardner says he is still planning to lead a campaign in the Northwest state to make it the second after Oregon to legalize assisted suicide. That's despite recently undergoing deep brain surgery for Parkinson's Disease, which could possibly be used to help incapacitated patients like Terri Schiavo.

Considering the Washington State killer wannabees I linked to above, ping to a wagglebee posted thread on what is happening to the death camps of Oregon.

Experts in death wish to rename their craft to something more soft and fuzzy. They can't run the risk of offending somebody who just committed suicide...

Salem, OR (LifeNews.com) -- Oregon is the only state in the nation to have legalized assisted suicide, but don't call the grisly practice by that name anymore. The state's health department has decided to change the wording of the phrase when referring to the state law -- a move that has pro-life advocates up in arms.

The Oregon Department of Human Services has determined that it will begin referring to "physician assisted suicide" as "physician assisted death" on official reports.

Ping to wagglebee thread on school field trip to an abortuary. I wonder what the kids do in their biology labs.

Gordon gargles doublespeak or newspeak in this amazing story, when I though I could no longer be amazed at the chutzpah of the death lovers...

“I wouldn’t say it was necessarily both sides,” Gordon said. “I don’t want to polarize things by saying this is one side and that’s another. The opposite of pro-choice is anti-choice. The opposite of pro-life is anti-life. If they say they’re pro-life, I can say I agree with people living. I’m not for people dying. But I’m also for people having a choice. I’m not for people not having a choice to do what they want.”

Imagine! (No heaven and stuff, but maybe at least a tiny tsunami?) Tune courtesy of PMSNBC

The fantasies of the left and the death culture emerge as they dream of paradise, perhaps one finally free of the haunt of the Terri Legacy.

While many attribute the Republican freefall to the scandal involving former Rep. Mark Foley and his e-mails to congressional pages, it really was no more than the straw that broke the camel's back. The seeds of Republicans' problems were planted long before publication of the congressman's e-mails to pages. The war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, other congressional scandals, federal budget spending and deficits, stem-cell research, Terri Schiavo and a multitude of other factors had been feeding the creation of an undertow for the GOP that goes back over a year. The "time for a change" dynamic that worked against Democrats in 1994 gradually came into place, fueled by all those factors mentioned above, and now it would probably take some huge event to alter its course.

The blue wave of the future is clear... But which specific seats will fall and how far inland will the wave go?

Just more sputtering of the lefties of Media Madders...

................

Where to begin? You could start with Media Matters for America's catalog of graceless attacks made by the likes of O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh, who owe their careers to their willingness to assault political opponents and stomp on minority viewpoints. In terms of Noonan herself, travel back to last year's Terri Schiavo right-to-die controversy and try to find the grace hidden in the insults Noonan hurled against anyone who disagreed with her radical notion that Congress needed to overrule the rights of Schiavo's husband and keep Terri alive via legislation. To Noonan, her opponents had a "bizarre passion" for death, were "unstable," "unhinged," and "red-fanged and ravenous." She warned that they were paving "the low road that twists past Columbine and leads toward Auschwitz."

Peggy Noonan, meet Bill O'Reilly

That is a terrible indictment. We must pray for her.

Sorry for all the posting of the drivel of the loony left, but they are obsessed with Terri and can't shed her Legacy. Just linking to it to record their fits...

Now, I am always careful to point out that Baird had the guts to oppose the Iraq War resolution, which was not a trivial matter. He voted for the lunatic Schiavo legislation, which I still don't understand. And while I can appreciate the need for members in swing districts to have some lattitude, there really needs to be some party discipline as well.

Aren't they beautiful? I never heard of Angel Trumpets before. Bless the plant breeder for honoring Terri.

Perhaps Michael will be "honored" some day -- except I can't quite imagine anybody breeding new varieties of toadstools.

That's a nice remembrance of Sophie Scholl. I read somewhere that "over 100" schools in Germany are named for Sophie. Wouldn't it be nice to name schools for Terri? In a way, it undoes the evil of her murder to honor her memory.

I wonder when the DVD of "Sophie Scholl -- The Last Days" will be released? Soon, I believe. I think the last theater showing of the film was scheduled for next month. They should release the DVD immediately afterward (at least I hope they will). I have my order ready in Netflix :-)

Mauser, is #1288 still showing that ugly message? I get a Red X now. That's not so bad. But if it's still flashing that eyesore, I want to pull the post.

What a waste of good surgery!! The man gets brain surgery, then comes out for killing brain patients? They should go back in and surgically remove his evil lobes.

Yesterday I listened to a hospital advertisement on radio. Its pitch was, doctors are doing heart surgery today that was considered impossible a mere ten years ago. They are using computer planning and robotic aids and micro-surgery and less invasive techniques.

It occurred to me that the death cultists, who style themselves "progressives," are in full rebellion AGAINST medical progress. It is they who gloss over every advance in medicine. It is they who declare that further care is futile. They just want to kill people. But medicine marches on, and that brings hope to future Terri Schiavos.

Thank you! Didn't know that about not being able to edit. I'll get back to you if needed. If others are getting a RedX now, it's not worth pulling the post, imo. Otherwise, yes.

The writer is very critical of shooting predatory sea lions that are wrecking the salmon fishing in the Columbia River. At the same time, he calls the effort to save Terri Schiavo's life "lunatic." This gives us a perfect fix on his value system. He doesn't like young women but he is hot for sea lions.

That's weird, even for Oregon. However, I wish him a nice life with Mrs. Lion and hope all his cubs have the right number of flippers.

As kids growing up we would go to the sea lion caves. I guess I must have been a conservative even then because I preferred girls to sea lions.

I wonder if he has a "Save the Baby Seals" next to his "Pro-Choice" bumper sticker and a brand new "Kerry- Edwards 2004" sticker as well.

I dunno, "physician-assisted death" sounds a LOT harsher to my ear than "assisted suicide."

This is the publik skool mentality at work. You don't have to learn anything or achieve any goals, you just have to be awarded your share of self-esteem. If you score 41 on your spelling test and 60 in arithmetic, the teacher will give you two extra red stars on your report card so that you'll still feel really good about yourself. Now it comes down to killing yourself with the right wording so that you don't lose any self-esteem.

Freepers can help with any problem, right? Let's throw the floor open for suggestions to let squeamish folks in Oregon commit suicide in pretty words. Y'know, like "Doctor-Assisted Failure to Breathe." Or, "Ha-ha! Good-bye forever to all of you smarty-pants religious right theocrats!"
