Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

I am still skeptical whether or not AQ has a functional nuke. If they do, it would exceed 911 as bragged about. However, I think it more likely a dirty bomb(s) would be used at this stage. Much easier to produce, hide and handle. Incorporated in multiple vehicle bombs at the abundance of soft targets here would generate a great deal of fear.

Agreed. A functioning device is the nightmare scenario I hesitate to even contemplate. However the so called dirty bomb scenario is much more "doable" albeit would be significantly less destructive than 911, IMHO. Unless you're right on top of the H.E. when it detonates, which is where the true killing power lies. The irradiated material presents little hazzard unless it is somehow ingested or inhaled in fairly significant concentrations.

But a dirty bomb would gain so much propaganda value it would seem as if 911 were magnified. It would be as if were had been nuked for real. But all in all, given a choice I'll take the dirty bomb with low grade nuclear material wrapped around conventional high explosive (Cemtex?) over the real deal with gamma rays, blast damage, over pressure and an all consuming firestorm ...... anyday.

I'd be willing to bet that every major Western intelligence service has more data on top global terrorists than what they make public. But if I knew that for a fact, I wouldn't be posting here. Even local police departments usually have more information on potential suspects or specific details of a crime than what they release to the press.

That article Ian posted today with Hamid Mir predicting Ramadan attacks has an after-the-fact claim that UBL and Mullah Omar met a few weeks ago. So you are correct in saying that most of the time these stories (true or not) dribble out after the fact. It doesn't matter at that point. The Taliban leaders were probably not invited to be part of UBL's private meetings with Mullah Omar (if this happened)nor would they have details of planned operations, and weeks later they are both long gone so who cares if one of the Taliban runs their mouth after-the-fact? Same goes for the Damascus "terror summit".

They probably gave him permission to talk to Mir so they could brag about their secret meeting and planned upcoming attacks. They are very media savvy. "All the world's a stage."

Unlike Washington DC, al Qaeda and the Taliban do not seem to have a big problem with leakers. Probably because the kids out back will be playing soccer with the leaker's head the next day if one of them were to talk to a newsie without permission.

9/7 is also the day when the two "al Masri" tapes were released:

1) the 5-year old, pre-9/11 video of UBL with the 9/11 planners and

2) the first audiotape from the new leader of al Qaeda in Iraq that started the 15-day countdown to 9/22

LOL. Well we know they aren't smart because if they were they would not be so bent on murder and mayhem.

The bottom right corner clock is one I can't make out too clearly. I see the numeral 10 I believe in the top left of that clock which if correct would put the clock face itself in a different position than the other 3 clock faces.

However, I see that the 3 clock faces I can see clearly out of the 4 do indeed seem to have the hands in the same place.

On the other hand, Washington should learn from their tactics and employ them on nyslimes reporters and the inside-the-beltway type leakers, don't you think?

Sorry to bust in as I'm new to this thread (thanks for sharing it with us at ME Cindy,) but can someone share a linked graphic of the clocks you're discussing?

Also, I've had this nagging feeling about the Koran verses that were subtitled under Zawahari on the "Invitation to Islam" video a week ago last Saturday. Has anyone computed something from those numbers at all? Thanks in advance and I appreciate what you're all doing here.
