ARTICLE SNIPPET: "WASHINGTON (AP) — Anti-terrorism officials conducted a helicopter survey of New York City's radiation sources in preparation for a so-called "dirty bomb" attack — and discovered a Staten Island park with dangerously high levels of radium, a new report found.

Federal authorities found 80 unexpected "hot spots" around New York City, according to the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress."

Indianapolis - Police have arrested a man after finding chemicals and equipment in his apartment that they believe were being used to make dangerous weapons.

Joseph Bagley, 26, was arrested Friday morning at his apartment in Indianapolis. Police say they found chemicals, equipment, gas masks, air purification masks and unlabeled jars of chemicals and powders in Bagley's apartment. Police also saw soldering equipment in plain view, as well as batteries taped together, wires and putty material attached to a metal tube.

Marion County Haz Mat were called to the scene and technicians determined that the chemicals and materials were being used to make a regulated explosive.

Eyewitness News has learned that police have confiscated Bagley's computer.

The apartment complex manager told police that a carpet cleaner contractor had written a note saying that Bagley's apartment looked like a "terrorist cell." Police say they found literature about Al Qaeda in Bagley's apartment, as well as books on Muslim names, understanding United States documents and about Saddam Hussein's bomb maker.

Bagley was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness. He told police that he had been mixing chemicals. Police also say he was a former electrical engineering student at a local university.

"Man Fatally Shot By Pomona Police Had Toy Gun"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CBS) POMONA Pomona officers fatally wounded a man who pointed what turned out to be a toy gun at them, marking the second police-involved shooting in that city in a seven-hour span, authorities said Friday. "

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As the officers searched the area, they were confronted by a man -- later identified as Bonilla -- who wore a black bandanna and a baseball cap and pointed what appeared to be an assault rifle at them, Webb said.

One of the officers fired several rounds from an AR-15 rifle, striking the man in the upper body, Webb said. The fatally wounded man's gun turned out to be a "toy replica," she said."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Seven hours earlier and several blocks away, Pomona police shot and wounded a suspected gang member in the 400 block of East La Verne Avenue.

Two Pomona police officers and a deputy district attorney who prosecutes gang-related crimes had been out patrolling for gang activity when they saw a suspicious vehicle in an alley with two males inside and moved in to investigate, sheriff's Deputy Carlos Lopez said.

The passenger ran away, ditching a gun in the backyard of a nearby house as he fled, and the driver sped off, Lopez said.

The passenger evaded capture, but police caught up with the driver in a nearby alley, where the suspect opened fire and officers shot back, he said. "

4 black males were robbing houses on the same street.....one house looked to be an old folks hospice...someone called 9-1-1 and two males took elderly residents hostage......SWAT teams set up all over with 2 other suspects outstanding.....the residents are now okay with 2 of 4 in custody.

the school was locked down in the middle of all this.

I'm not a big George Noory fan, but he was just on the Glenn Beck show discussing Hamid Mir, Shukrijumah and the "imminent" nuclear threat.....and the warning to muslims to leave the U.S. Noory sounded convinced that the threat is real. ????

I'll believe the efforts are sincere when the efforts are made in earnest (no more catch and release or failure of ICE to pick up those who have been called in - and those caught here after being deported or having committed crimes against Americans are tossed in the slammer to serve serious time before being deported again). Repeat offenders have no respect for us or our country and must be removed posthaste to protect us. When we read about people deported 17 times who are back again, they spit at our laws. If we don't have any respect from foreign nationals, how can we expect our nation's children to be respectful of our laws either??

You're correct. There've also been findings of suicide vests in vacant buildings and other large stashes of weapons by people not identified in the articles. Some of the locations were nondescript (not large cities).

I've seen posts on other threads that insinuate anyone concerned about potential terrorist attacks in our country is filled with paranoia and over-wrought with doomsday scenarios. If we are attacked and gasoline and food and essential supplies are curtailed or stopped, at least we'll be somewhat ready for whatever happens thereafter.

Local Washington, DC newcast just reported that a van with Connecticut tags being driven by an Israeli was stopped and searched on 95at around 7:30 this evening. They found suspicious articles in the van including maps and pictures of local landmarks and bridges.

The van is being processed and the man is being held in College Park, MD for questioning. I have found no mention yet on local news websites.

Police Say Man Took Photos Of Baltimore Tunnel

Maryland State Police said they caught a man whom they called suspicious taking pictures of one of the Baltimore tunnels Friday evening.

Troopers pulled over a car on northbound Interstate 95 in Laurel. Police said they believe the man inside snapped photos of either the Harbor or Fort McHenry tunnel, but they are not sure which.

Investigators took the man into custody. Troopers remained at the scene to examine his car.
