Suspected suicide bomb equipment diffused in Ohio
Snip: AKRON -- A small backpack with wires, batteries, and a long wire with a detonator certainly looked real enough for members of the Summit County Bomb Squad to call out the ATF and evacuate several nearby homes. Cleaning crews discovered the device Wednesday afternoon while working at a home on Gage Street near the University of Akron.
"It appeared to be a bomb," said Tim Whittington, who first discovered the device in an upstairs bedroom. "It had wiring, and a device with a plunger, and chains latched to it to put on a person." Investigators said Whittington did the right thing by calling police. The pack appeared ready to wear and wired correctly for a suicide bomber, investigators said.
A remote-control water cannon fired one blast at the device to disarm the batteries. The shot was successful, and it also blew a hole in the plastic compartment where the explosives would have been. Investigators say the compartment was empty. Police believe it was either the real thing but lacking the final explosives or it was a look-a-like that someone could use in a crime.
Ramadan hell for Israelis - Islamic jihad planning terror
Snip: WorldNetDaily.com, reports that there are very serious indications the Islamic Jihad terror group is planning to launch a string of suicide bombings against Israel throughout the Muslim holiday month of Ramadan, which begins this year on Sept. 23.....
Islamic History Expert: Muslims will never make peace
Snip: Sharon, speaking at the annual conference of Herzliya¹s Counter Terrorism Institute, said that Iran is dead serious about obtaining and using nuclear weapons in order to bring about its vision of an Islamic End of Days.
The veteran expert on Islam says that Western officials fail to grasp that the Arab concept that Isreal's existence is a "reversal of history"and are therefore unable to ever accept peaceful relations with it. From Moslems' perspective, Islamic territory was taken away from Islam by Jews. You know by now that this can never be accepted, not even one meter. So everyone who thinks Tel Aviv is safe is making a grave mistake. Territory which at one time was dominated by Islamic rule, now has become non-Moslem. Non-Moslems are independent of Islamic rule and Jews have created their own independent state. It is anathema. Worse, Israel, a non-Moslem state, is ruling over Moslems. It is unthinkable that non-Moslems should rule over Moslems.
Sharon dismissed various peace treaties signed by Moslem and Arab officials over the years as "pieces of paper, parts of tactics and strategies with no meaning."

"Morocco Sees Good in Hacker's Conviction"
Thursday September 14, 2006 4:23pm
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "RABAT, Morocco (AP) - Morocco (website - news) 's most internationally famous criminal of late is not a terrorist or serial killer, but a teenager with a knack for computers. The conviction this week of a Moroccan science student for unleashing the Zotob worm that ravaged U.S. computer networks last year could even be cast as proof that this agriculture-dependent, unemployment-plagued nation is making its mark on the digital world.
In August 2005, Zotob crashed computers across the United States, including those of The Associated Press, The New York Times and other media organizations; companies such as heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau.
Farid Essebar, then 18, was arrested soon afterward along with accomplices in Morocco and Turkey in a sweep by U.S., Moroccan and Turkish police. On Tuesday a court in Sale, near the capital, Rabat, sentenced him to two years in prison and gave his friend Achraf Bahloul one year.
While few Moroccans are willing to defend Essebar's flagrantly criminal hacking feat, many see it as evidence that their country is making the leap to computer literacy."

'CHAVEZ AND THE

September 15, 2006
International News Analysis Today

or
http://www.internationalnewsanalysis.com
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An object lesson in terror networking will soon be available to the American people with the arrival in Venezuela, at a time yet to be divulged, of the president of Iran, Mahmud Ahmadinejad. Whether the mass media will cover the arrival in the Western Hemisphere of the Islamic Republic of Iran is uncertain.
Chavez has already made five trips to Iran, the fifth this July, and Ahmadinejad's trip will be the second time an Iranian president has come to Venezuela. This meeting, however, comes as Venezuela is seeking a seat on the United Nation's Security Council. If successful, the Chavez regime would join the other 10 non-permanent members and the five permanent members: Russia, China, France, Britain, and the United States."

THE HUGO DOLL: Venezuela's Cult Phenomenon
Spiegel ^
Posted on 09/15/2006 2:19:08 PM PDT by chemical_boy
A toy doll of the oil-loving, America-dissing, South American power-consolidating Venezuelen leader Hugo Chavez is selling like hotcakes on the streets of Caracas. He's got his hands firmly on the most important oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere, he has a hit TV show that broadcasts every Saturday -- and he has his very own doll. Hugo Chavez, the 52-year-old president of Venezuela, has become a Latin American cult figure in every sense of the word. In the capital city of Caracas, a 60-centimer-high Chavez action figure wearing the uniform of a Venezuelan parachutist has become a surprise bestseller in stores. This plastic replica of the former military commander also talks. Push a button and it says, "I arrived here to do all humanly possible to help all the Venezuelan people realize their dreams and their desire to be free and equal." Chavez has made public-image moves to replace his friend and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro as the true "líder latino Americano." Lately he's been on the road around the world as a forger of what he calls an "axis of good" -- a trip that has taken him from Caracas to places like Tehran and Hanoi. On his world tour Chavez managed to visit the ailing Cuban dictator at his sickbed not just once, but twice. It was Chavez's way of signaling that Castro's regime is propped up by infusions of Venezuelan oil -- rather like a bedridden old man kept alive after a blood transfusion.

Another important excerpt from the article:
"The report misses the fact that 1993 WTC attack architect Ramzi Yousef -- nephew of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed -- landed in America on an Iraqi passport. Nor does it mention Indiana-born, Iraqi-bred Abdul Rahman Yasin, the al Qaeda operative who built the 1993 WTC bomb that killed six and injured 1,040. He fled to Iraq and, documents show, received a house and salary from Husseins regime. As Sheila MacVicar reported for ABC News on July 27, 1994: Last week, [television program] Day One confirmed [Yasin] is in Baghdad
Just a few days ago, he was seen at [his fathers] house by ABC News. Neighbors told us Yasin comes and goes freely.
Highly recommend reading the entire article.

"Clown protestors convicted in attack on missile silo"
St. Paul Pioneer Press ^ | Fri, Sep. 15, 2006 | Staff
Posted on 09/15/2006 5:34:09 PM PDT by Excuse_My_Bellicosity
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) _ Three peace activists accused of vandalizing a Minuteman III missile silo site near Garrison have been convicted by a federal jury of destroying government property.
Greg Boertje-Obed, 51, and Michael Walli, 57, both of Duluth, Minn., and Carl Kabat, 72, of St. Louis, admitted during the course of a two-day trial to dressing up as clowns, breaking into the missile silo site June 20, spray-painting messages and splattering blood, and pounding on the lid of the underground silo with hammers.
The jury deliberated only about 1½ hours Thursday before convicting the men.
The three men, members of the Wisconsin-based group Nukewatch, showed little reaction when the verdict was read. They each face up to 10 years in prison and $250,000 in fines."

"Reagan Defense Official Testifies on 'Islamofacism'"
By Kevin Mooney
CNSNews.com Staff Writer
September 15, 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNSNews.com) - America's "Islamofascist" adversaries have successfully established a well-funded and expansive "fifth column" throughout the United States that is devoted to a radical view of Islam. That's according to a former Reagan Defense Department official.
Muslim leaders dispute the allegations by Frank Gaffney, who was an assistant secretary of defense for international security policy in the Reagan administration.
Gaffney recently told a House international relations subcommittee that funding from radical sources in Saudi Arabia has helped to set up an "apparatus" that "has a substantial organizational footprint all across the United States."
Gaffney, now president and CEO of the Center for Security Policy, said Sept. 7 that U.S. government officials unwittingly bolster this apparatus by extending legitimacy to organizations that feign moderation."

Bush: Clear Rules Needed for Detainee Operations
By Sgt. Sara Wood, USA
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2006 The pending legislation in Congress about detaining, questioning and trying suspected terrorists will give military intelligence professionals the clarity they need to protect the American people from another terrorist attack, President Bush said here today.
We'll work with Congress to get good bills out because we have a duty. We have a duty to work together to give our folks on the front line the tools necessary to protect America, Bush said at a news conference at the White House.
The first bill pending would allow the U.S. to use military commissions to try suspected terrorists for war crimes and would clarify the rules on the detention and questioning of such suspects, Bush said. This bill is vital because it will allow the Central Intelligence Agencys interrogation program to move forward, he said.
The CIAs program has yielded a lot of valuable information since the war on terror began and has helped disrupt numerous terrorist plots, including attacks on the U.S. Marine base in eastern Africa, the American consulate in Pakistan, and Britain's Heathrow Airport, Bush said.
This program has been one of the most vital tools in our efforts to protect this country, he said. It's been invaluable to our country, and it's invaluable to our allies. Were it not for this program, our intelligence community believes that al Qaeda and its allies would have succeeded in launching another attack against the American homeland.
There is debate about the specific provisions in this bill, Bush acknowledged, but the most important aspect of it will be to allow the interrogation program to continue.
The second bill pending will modernize U.S. electronic surveillance laws and provide additional authority for the terrorist surveillance program, Bush said. The surveillance program has allowed the government to quickly monitor terrorist communications and has helped detect and prevent terrorist attacks, he said.
Both the pending bills are essential to U.S. victory in the war on terror, and the administration is committed to working with Congress to ensure military professionals have clarity enough to do their jobs, Bush said.
It's a dangerous world, he said. I wish it wasn't that way. I wish I could tell the American people, Don't worry about it. They're not coming again. But they are coming again. And that's why I've sent this legislation up to Congress, and that's why we'll continue to work with allies in building a vast coalition to protect not only ourselves, but them.
The goal of both pieces of legislation is to clarify U.S. laws and set high standards for the treatment of detainees, Bush said. The Supreme Courts ruling that detention operations must be conducted under Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention is vague, and opens U.S. military and intelligence professionals up to the possibility of violating the law without knowing it, he said.
These are decent, honorable citizens who are on the front line of protecting the American people, and they expect our government to give them clarity about what is right and what is wrong in the law, and that's what we have asked to do, he said.
After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists have continued to strike around the world and have demonstrated their commitment to spreading their ideology of hatred, Bush said. The U.S. needs to take the terrorists words and actions seriously, and do what is needed to protect the country from another attack, he said.
My job and the job of people here in Washington, D.C., is to protect this country. We didn't ask for this war, he said. This enemy has struck us, and they want to strike us again. And we'll give our folks the tools necessary to protect the country. That's our job.
