Most Americans Agree with Evolution [new poll]

More adults in the United States believe the theory of evolution is correct, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 51 per cent of respondents think that humans and other living things evolved over time, while 42 per cent say they existed in their present form since the beginning of time.

Charles Darwin’s "The Origin of Species" was first published in 1859. The book details the British naturalist’s theory that all organisms gradually evolve through the process of natural selection. Darwin’s views were antagonistic to creationism, the belief that a more powerful being or a deity created life.

In the United States, the debate on the topic accelerated after the 1925 Scopes trial, which tested a law that banned the teaching of evolution in Tennessee public schools. In 2004, Georgia’s Cobb County was at the centre of a controversy on whether science textbooks that explain evolutionary theory should include disclaimer stickers.

The theory of intelligent design suggests certain biological mechanisms are too complex to have developed without the involvement of a powerful force or intelligent being.

Last month, Austrian cardinal Christoph Schoenborn said the two views are not necessarily incompatible, declaring, "There is no conflict between science and religion, but a debate between a materialist interpretation of the results of science and a metaphysical philosophical interpretation. (...) The possibility that the Creator used evolution as a tool is completely acceptable for the Catholic faith."

People like you cause JESUS to spin in HIS grave!

I would recommend you read the BIble a little more carefully.

How does the average Christian deal with the paradox of having free will yet having all decisions predetermined?

Translation:

Let's get the Calvinists and the Armenians fighting. ;^)

Actually, just because HE 'sees' what happens, does not means HE causes them to happen.

I believe the (apocryphal) Book of Enoch is where you'll find the angels gettin' down with the locals.

Genesis 6:1-2 : "And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

That's in Genesis. Now the question is, just who were the "sons of God"?

There is NO WAY that Newton was a Deist.

Newton was in fact an Arian. He denied the divinity of Christ.

At the time of Jesus and John, there was no "science" as we know it today.

150 years ago 'there was no "science" as we know it today' either!

1) Adam and Eve in the garden of eden in having sexual relations thus producing the tree of life and shame for doing something they were told would have great reprocussions.

Huh??

Science was pretty well underway 150 years ago, although not as fleshed out as today. And that doesn't change my point -- it wasn't POSSIBLE to frame things scientifically in 30 BC.

Can't you tell from my posts whether I'm a YEC or not?

Sure looks like it.

"1 This is the written account of Adam's line.
When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man. [a] "
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth."

Now you can argue that this is a one-lineage account of Adam, while I an argue that the statement "When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them," meant that God 'created' man/female in various areas of the world through an evolutionary trend. The statement made "in the likeness of God" could mean the Holy Spirit blessed a chosen man and woman, Adam and Eve, to generate the chosen tribe of God. This spiritual, biblical awareness separated man from the "filler" tribes. These tribes were relegated to common animalistic traits and actions. Cain, a runaway murderer ended up marrying a female and produced rampant carnality and destruction.

Obviously this is all conjecture, but wouldn't it be nice if both sides of the creation argument could just relax their guard a tad and maybe would could get all philosphies and theories discussed in public classrooms? I know which one would when out.

What did you think the tree of life was? An apple? It is the exchange of the seed of man to have the ability to create life. That is why they were ashamed, they had engaged in an action perpetrated by Satan.

Yup, you COULD say this, but you'd be hard pressed to back it up from SCRIPTURE.

Sure. But even Jesus had to clarify the old testament to modern day geniuses.

Didn't anyone ever tell you that hotlinking graphics uses up other people's bandwidth and is therefore stealing?

I wouldn't worry about 'bandwidth' half as much as I would worry about someone so obsessive they go around tracking down FReepers on the internet.

Have look at the poster's history; genuinely obsessive stuff.

Friendly advice: I'd give someone with those kind of problems a pretty wide berth.
