An enraged Connecticut lawyer leaped through the window of the house next door and plunged a knife into his neighbor's chest a dozen times - after being told the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said yesterday. Patent-law attorney Jonathon Edington, 29, turned vigilante after receiving a phone call Monday evening from his wife - who was away on vacation with their daughter - telling him that the neighbor, Barry James, 58, had been sexually abusing the little girl.
That prompted the seemingly mild-mannered Edington to storm over to James' house in the quiet suburban neighborhood, jump through a kitchen window and stab him, said Capt. Gary MacNamara of the Fairfield, Conn., police. The victim's elderly parents looked on in horror.
When Edington returned to his house, James' 87-year-old mother called police. Officers found the lawyer in his kitchen trying to wash blood off his hands and the murder weapon lying on the counter, MacNamara said.
Edington was arrested without incident and was charged Tuesday with murder and burglary.
His lawyer said his client simply lost it after being told his daughter had been sexually assaulted.
"The daughter gave the mother information which was alarming and disturbing. The mom relayed it to her husband. That was the spark," attorney Mickey Sherman said.
He would not say when the alleged molestation occurred.
MacNamara said police have no evidence that such an assault took place but were investigating.

I agree. This smells. Mother takes 2 year old from home then calls in to tell husband this at an undisclosed location.
I'm with you.
The father had every reason to be outraged, but now he may have destroyed his family. He may have just deprived his daughter of her fatehr when she needs him most.
it could be, since he lived with his elderly parents, that maybe the mom next door babysat sometimes.
"To kill your neighbor base on a two year old's word is very shaky - to put it mildly... The neighbor deserved a trial on a he said she said situation at a minimum."
I absolutely agree. The whole story is odd. Wouldn't he have called the police or maybe have confronted the neighbor with an accusation first and then, based on the supposed molester's reaction, acted. Running off half cocked, without proof in hand, seems an strange response under the circumstances. Wouldn't he at least have told his wife to bring the baby home so they could delve further into the matter?
I don't see a problem here. minus one pervert - GOOD!
"Edington was arrested without incident and was charged Tuesday with murder and burglary."
Why burglary?
Good question. Much more info is needed.

Strange story, and not necessarily to be believed. He could have killed the guy for some other reason and then convinced his wife to lie about a child-mollestation motive, for instance.
Anyway, 'losing it' doesn't justify killing. And Freepers who condemn the victim on the basis of the killer's lawyer's report of the killer's report of his wife's report of their two-year-old's report may eventually be embarrassed.
Illegally entering an inhabitable dwelling and committing a crime therein.
Your fantasizing about the father's possible guilt makes me wonder if you're related to Mark Karr.
It was based on what a mother said the two year old said. This is real shaky. If you are going to take the law into your own hands, you should be real careful. If there is no proof of the molestation it is a manslaughter conviction.
Why burglary?
Most likely that his manner of entry into the house was considered an "unlawful breaking and entry with the intent to commit a crime therein." (common law definition) Other jurisdictions would call it breaking and entering , or home invasion. The definitions are all very similar, but the terminology changes between jurisdictions.

Her mother will get another father.
beat Me to it!
he also stole the perv(?)'s water to wash the knife
"The daughter gave the mother information which was alarming and disturbing."
I'm sorry, but I would not kill someone over the word of a 2 year old. Especially if I was getting the information second hand.
No problem. He did it with a knife.
I agree with you. On the other hand, I suspect that the reason this crime was committed is the same reason a lot of other acts of vigilanteism are committed... The perps don't trust the justice system. And who can blame them? Afterall, the judges in New England routinely give child molesters a pass. Sentence them to picking up litter in the park, and that's the end of it.
