Dear Rob,
"Cheated" twice with a couple beers a couple times over the last couple days, though, nominally, it'll be three weeks "clean" on Tuesday. This adds to guilt, but is the only way I can get myself relaxed enough to keep from bawling out of extremely-uncool and undeserved self-pity.
I'm under great medical observation, and a crapload of antidepressants [x,y, and z].
Tell me, Rob, what it is I'm recovering "from" and why, since this world is such a [messed up] place? When I was a drunk, sure, I'd be moody in the mornings, productive at work (and I NEVER drank during the day), and everyone's friend once I got home. Now it's just constant depression and having to face a [messed] up world (with way too many liberals in it .
I'm a very proud, spiritual Christian, but I'm even too ashamed to pray, at least at length, since both He and I know that I am the problem.
The real abstraction here is if this horrid beautiful watery place is better with or without my presence. That last sentence isn't a "cry for help - please hug me I'm hurting, Oprah" throwaway - it's a serious question about which me is better: the happy, intoxicated, likely-to-be-shorter-lived friend of everyone, or the stoic, medicated, spooked, depressed sober me who no one will ever trust again since he had such "deep issues".
What I need is reason/cognition/rationalization, and maybe I'll increase my [x] or extend it for a couple more weeks.
You're an Internet pal, trustworthy by sheer virtue of being a Conservative, and, your advice and wisdom is easier to follow exactly because I do NOT know you personally.
If you don't mind redacting my screenname, feel free to poll/ping the Recovery List. I'll "come out" when I'm ready, I promise.
God Bless You and have a great week,

Please see my post #276. I know exactly how you feel. My sister died Tuesday.
Tell your brother you love him and that you want him to live. Tell him that he is important to you and that you want a new life for him. Tell him you will be there for whatever he needs as he works to get himself together. Tell him you want to be there and you want to hold him when he finally gets himself free. Tell him it's important to you to get your brother back. And again, tell your brother you love him and that you want him to live.
I didn't say all these things to my sister, at least not as directly and as forcefully as I wish I would have, and that is my regret. Try. Do what you can. And don't regret. There are decisions that are only your brother's to make, but you need to let him know what those decisions mean to you. After that it's all up to him. You have a life, go and live it.
I feel for you, I really do. God bless you, your family, and your brother. I pray things turn around. The death of my sister was horrible in every way, and I hope and pray that you never have to know what it's like.
I'm here anytime,
Steve

I am taking liquid vitamins as well as a lot of people in my family and some of them suffer things like depression anxiety attacks and the such and vitamins really help.I know a exprofootball player that took this stuff, but he checked it out before taking it not like this payer who just got suspended. They really work.

And, this is going to be the worst winter of my entire life.
My husband of 48 years, who I have known since I was 9 and married at 17 has stage 4 cancer and barring a miracle is not going to last much past winter.

Wow when I got through the posts I realized there are many hurting people out there.... my prayers are offered....but I wanted to respond to the friend who wrote to Rob....
Strength is when you reach out - empty all the ugly stuff from your gut and your heart and just let it all go.
Reviewing it daily doesn't get you on the path. Dump it at the side of the path and start out with a fresh heart.
Putting yourself down for past mistakes is old stuff and doesn't get you on the path. Dump it.
Take little baby steps as soon as you open your eyes in the morning. Start your life each day and look forward to the pleasures you will find - little things like a smile from someone you pass by - even if you have to smile first.
Start listening to people instead of being so involved with yourself. Reach out - listen, learn, hear, and love yourself.
If you give up now you will never know what wonderful things are meant for everyone - if you have the courage to continue on the path. Aren't you just a little curious to know what's ahead? Aren't you curious to know just how strong you are?
Take little steps, if you feel you might fall back, sit down and regroup but keep moving ahead.
And when you know you've reached a good place come back and share - so you can help another.

YES! KITTY MITTENS! THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL.
Actually, my blood dad, Faires and my step-dad Howard are both way overmuch that way.
Howard has a pretty good relationship with God and usually seeks to behave in a Christlike manner--though seemingly making an exception in his relationship with me, on that score. Sigh.
My blood dad . . . much more at risk health wise and a much poorer relationship with God though he had one in his teens. Doesn't communicate much or well. And is physically hard of hearing as well as relationally hard of hearing! LOL.
All you feel led to pray about them, for them and my relationship with each would be wonderful.

Confronting trouble as a Christian it's important to remember that there are times to "not strive, but yield."

True, true.
Though it can be crucially important to be careful about what and to whom we are yielding!
. . . surrendering . . .
. . . abandoning . . .

I'm a very proud, spiritual Christian,
My wife has a degree in pastorial counseling. For several years she has led a ministry call Celebrate Recovery, started by the friend of President Bush, John Baker. She is now the state rep for CR. It is a Christ centered recovery program that has had remarkable success for people recovering from alcohol, drugs, porn, gambling ... etc.
The whole focus of the ministry is getting folks to realize that none of us can heal ourselves and that we are on the road to true recovery only to when we admit that and turn to the
Great Physician for healing.
Please go to
www.CelebrateRecovery.Com to find a chapter near you. And God Bless.

How my Heart and Prayers Go Out to All the Hurting Souls on this Thread! The Things I've Read Here Make my Own Trials of 2 Years Seem Minor by Comparison. O Master, how we Pray that the Divine Power of the Highest will Grace Everyone in a Mighty Way, Bringing All Things Needed; Healing, Comfort, Strength, Salvation, and Peace. Grant Restoration, Grant Blessings, and Shower these Dear Ones with Thy Love. Ease the Pain in Every Hurting Heart, O Father our Great King. Bathe them in Mercies from our God. O You Who Cherish our Tears, Replace All Mourning with Your Grace.
"O God, have Mercy, for I am Trusting in You! I will Hide Beneath the Shadow of Your Wings Until the Storm is Past. I will Cry to the God of Heaven Who Does Such Wonders for me. He will Send Down Help from Heaven to Save me, becuse of His Love and His Faithfulness." (Ps.57:1-3)
Thank You, our Abba, for Help in the Midst of our Storms. We Love, Praise, and Honor our King, Praying in His Majesty's Name, amen.

Dear Quix, May the Father of Blessing grant your two earthly dads to have hearts blessed and full of Shalom, that the overflow of their mouths will speak forth life and peace, nurture and health and joy. Our Father, this must be a miracle of Thy Grace in Jesus Christ! Please work this power - a heart united to fear Thy Name, bellies full of love and joy, dead men of flesh walking in the Only True Life of Holy Spirit, into both of these men - so that the overflow spills out into our FRiend Quix's life, and he is blessed in seeing Thy Hand at Thy Work, and these lives transformed, because Jesus Lives and His Blood ever intercedes, amen.
