Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

"They had to go drag out a relative who proceeded to do the usual b*tch, moan, and whine about how they're being so mistreated by the airline."

I could never understand, too, how a "grieving" relative could complain about being mistreated after unfortunate incidents such as airplane crashes. I'm puzzled by what they expect during all the confusion. I remember Katrina evacuees, who didn't leave their homes when told to, complained of being "mistreated," too, during rescues. They weren't rescued fast enough, no one fed them soon enough, etc, etc.

Most don't complain but there are always some malcontents who are angry (and understandably so) that take out their anger on the most convenient entity, the airline.

Condolences. MSNBC mentioned the honeymooning couple whose wedding was yesterday.

The crash site, west of the 3500 foot runway 26, at Lexington airport, August 27, 2006. A Comair flight carrying 50 people crashed and burst into flames on Sunday shortly after taking off from Lexington's Blue Grass Airport, killing all those on board except one of the pilots, officials said. There are very competent pilots flying without military experience however most of the "short hop" pilots are very underpaid and are working to get their flight hours in so they can achieve full air carrier status.

Mindset and attitude is a factor also sadly enough.

In the movie ,if I am not mistaken (it has been 30 years since I saw it last) The airport Goldfingers plane was flying into after customs in Baltimore, was indeed referred to as Bluegrass something. However, the actual airport used during the filming of Pussy's Flying Circus scenes was Bowman Field in Louisville. There, glad to clear that up for you.

Here is an interesting USA Today article (posted at an attorney's web site) about the legal aftermath of an airline crash -

Settling Up: How Lawyers Build A Case To Make Corporations Pay When People Die In An Air Disaster

The plaintiff attorneys will try to get the maximum amount for economic loss, pain and suffering, etc.

The airline attorneys will try to minimize the liabilities, using the victims' tax records, medical history, employment conditions, etc.

I saw another article which says it is a violation of federal law for lawyers to make unsolicited communications to the victims' families for thirty days following the crash.

I told my son that we will probably find out that this guy wasn't related to anyone on the plane, but the media won't correct that story.

Thanks for posting those pics! I still can't see where the plane is, though. (?)

Yes, and the CRJ also totes Collins ProLine IV Avionics which I believe incorporates the FMS 6000 system which has user input for minimum runway length required for the aircraft and will not "flight plan" for anything less than the inputted required length.

Unfortunately the FMS 6000 system, nor that beautiful Collins line, pours and cures concrete in a hurry.

I can't make it out either. Good pic of the runway, though.

It looks like he taxiied out of the terminal, got on taxiway A to the end of runway 26, and instead of continuing across runway 26 to taxiway A7 and then taking that dogleg over to 22, he just turned left onto 26 and took off. I would love to see what the runway/taxiway signage looks like right there.

Another question. I'm assuming, since KLEX is a fairly big airport, that 04/22 is lit full-time? 08/26 isn't--there's a note about "MIRL out of service." Are the MIRL the runway edge lights? And is 04/22 not lit full-time?

I am wondering if those are burn marks in the lower right, on line with the runway.

That is not the function of it as designed....

Doesn't matter for if they don't they are under the umbrella of the radar of a close by ATC.
