In an Election 2006 conference sponsored by Paul Weyrich and the Free Congess Foundation this afternoon, panelist Robert Novak stated that based on his and others significant research he believed the GOP would lose between 27-30 seats in the House this fall.
Other panelists inlcuded John Fund, Kate O'Bierne and John Gizzy. A replay of the one hour conference can be heard at www.Rightalk.com , which webcast the event. click on "The Right Hour" logo.
I have seldom agreed with Novak, and do not agree now.
Somebody save this and let's see how good his prognosticating skills are!
That's what they said last time and the time before.
PING
Won't lose any in Alaska. Not even sure to lose Governor.
NOTE - It will only take a move of 15 seats to give the dems a majority. If this happens it will effectively put the dems in the majority position the pubs enjoy right now.
It must be true...Novak has spoken! /sarc
Omigod this will be a flaming disaster.
wait a minute! Novak? Making another prediction?
Now I feel much better.
Silly Silly Bobby. What is up with him? Robert Novak is just going crazier and crazier. Oops didn't mean you Bob J. lol.
ADOPT A CANDIDATE
That scares the hell out of me. OMG, Pelosi , Reed, Leahy etal as new leaders.....
It's now how much, it's where.
And, with what they've done nothing with.
Things happen to the nind when you work for CNN.
27-30, no, its more like every seat. EVERY LAST SEAT WILL BE LOST!!! I mean, if you are going to predict doom, why stop with just 27-30 seats.
I continue to believe that this will be a tough election and can see the likelihood of the GOP getting its arse handed to it. But I also believe that this election is not already a fait accompli as the pundits would have us believe. A good campaign can be waged and a clear choice laid before the American People. At the end of the day, merely parroting "a new direction for America" might not be enough for the dems to win the day.
Novak's record has been mixed. He underestimated GOP strength in '94, saying they would gain 46 seats. That time I was glad he was wrong. But I remember way back to 1984 when he was on McLaughlin saying the Repubs would gain 22-25 in the coming Reagan landslide. They took only 14. Still, Novak was closer in his estimates than the other prognosticators were. So I don't reject his projection completely. It does sound a bit optimistic for the Dems though.
