Jeeez the Washington Post sure played Allen.

First they whip the macaca issue to a frenzy then they nail Allen for over-apologizing. Allen better start counter-punching now.

The more you apologize, the guiltier you look.

His PR team has pissed down their leg on this one. Terrible job on their part. He would have been better off calling his brother Bruce and having one of the Tampa Bay Bucs PR people handle this one.

It is about time we make the *Democrats* apologize for sympathizing with people like Saddam Hussein and Aub Musab al Zarqawi.

Mike Wallace should apologize for sucking up the apocalyptic madman in Iran too.

Allen is stupid to keep apologizing.
Once, I'd love to see someone stand up and bark back at these people.
If what he's said is true, he should just stand up and say, "hey, our staff gave this guy a nickname, it means nothing and never has, it's just a nickname...end of story."

Allen should say "I've already addressed the error." and decline further comment

He's repeating the same mistakes as Trent Lott. He needs to just shut up.

Allen should have called the guy a piece of merda and been done with it.

He is losing more votes for apologizing than he would by just keeping his mouth shut.

He should just say that he's tired of that tar baby and all the curry sniffers should put some ice on it. :~O

Hey Dana, I'm still waiting for the WaPo's apologies.... Any old time now...... No need to stand on ceremony.... Just go ahead and seek our forgiveness....... Whenever you're ready to confess....... I'll give you a list of things to apologize for if you need help getting started. You can start with this phony 'insult' you've created with George Allen.

Once, just once, I'd like to see a GOP politician show some b@lls and stand up to this crowd, call them on their hypocrisy, not let themselves get whipsawed into stuttering apologies, and get right in their faces.

Allen should never have apologized. He should have just laughed it off and called them all useless "macacas" and let them just fume and rage about it.

This made him look very weak. Not good. You can't genuflect to your political enemies just because they get tough. You need to get tougher and meaner. Frankly, I'm looking around for somebody else to support now. Allen isn't hacking it.

Allen's campaigning recently has to be one of the WORST managed campaigns in recent senate elections.

Allen has managed to blow away a double digit lead to a lead of a few points , what a fool and a wimp!

This repeated apologising has to be a really bad piece of political strategy, a putz like Webb should be on the ropes now, instead its Allen on the defensive..

Given that Allen is basically out of the presidential hunt (he might even lose his seat), that sort of creates a vacuum as to a candidate whom some conservatives on social issues in particular would support in a GOP primary in 2008 for president. We seem to be left with Romney, Giuliani and McCain as viable candidates, which is fine with me (of course I would hope McCain won't make it, but that is just my opinion), but not to this particular cohort. Who will fill it? Will such voters drift to McCain and/or Romney, or will some person not currently in the running emerge, and if so who?

No, I don't consider Brownbach remotely viable with this cohort (he went "soft" on illegal immigration, is a very poor speaker, and comes across as dull, among other things), so I doubt it will be him. So who is left, that one can reasonably expect might decide to go for it to fill the vacuum, as opposed to those who say they won't, such as Condi Rice (who would probably not fill the bill anyway)? Or is no one left, and the three are the viable choices, in which event some in this neighborhood will not be happy campers?

He's apologized, and now he needs to take control of the campaign.

Has there ever been a more poignant example of media bias favoring the Democrats than this piece by the Washington Post....I don't think so.
