Buchanan-Matthews 2008? Chris Pleads With Pat to Take Back GOP From Neo-Cons

Don't laugh. If Lenora Fulani could flirt with Pat Buchanan in 2000, why not a Buchanan-Matthews ticket in 2008? After all, the pair share a powerful unifying distaste for neo-cons.

On this evening's Hardball, Matthews pleaded with Buchanan to take back the Republican party from neo-conservatives. Matthews:

"Pat, when are the traditional conservatives in this country who believe in less government, less role in the world, like yourself, though you might be more extreme than some, George Will, Bill Buckley, when are you guys going to retake your party from the neo-conservatives and stop these overseas campaigns?"

Buchanan: "I'll tell you, when you get a president of the United States who doesn't listen to them. And frankly you've got a president and a country that have been horribly burned by following this foolish ideology and I think in the future, Chris, quite frankly, it needn't to have happened - I think after Iraq you're not going to get a lot of adventures, although they are pushing for the Iranian thing as the last great cause."

Perhaps the two could convince Ralph Nader to accept an anticipatory appointment as Secretary of State, with Ned Lamont at Defense. Can you say 'unstoppable juggernaut'?

Pat is a bigger screw-up than nay in GW's administration. Anyone that listens to Pat can just follow him off the cliff because any party of Pat's will never be anything but a minority. When laws are changed, activist federal judges appointed, more Gingsburg's appointed to the supremes, taxes raised, the economy destroyed and european social values established here as norm and the islamists are 100 times stronger because they have not been confronted and killed or captured, you and Pat can look in the mirror and ask whose at fault now?

Good for you.

But I DON'T care what Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot, Jesse Jackson, Ralph Nader or Al Sharpton thinks.

They aren't Republicans.

Please Lord, let Pat run again. Elections need more comedy.

Pat Buchanan is not even a Republican. He resigned from the party years ago.

So tell me what the Republican party has going for it. Bloated government, open borders, an administration that bows to Saudis. A president that can't face the fact that his Homeland Security can't close borders, calls Islam a religion of peace etc. His own party supports Leiberman vs his own candidate - although ole Joe votes against him 90% of the time.

If Pat runs and he gets less than 1%, do they round that up or down?

Mathews believes the standard lies of the DNC. Thereafter, anything he could possibly say is simply wasted air, as it is based on falsehoods. Nancy Pelosi is more in tune with reality than Mathews is, and she is hopeless.

I wonder if we'll ever see Matthews plead with Lieberman to take back his party from the Neo-'RATS. (Soros, Pelosi, Reid, et al). I won't hold my breath.

I'm sure Chrissy would be happy to join the other two people left in the Reform Party at their next meeting in Patty's basement.

The only way Pat is ever again going to get in a position to take back the GOP is if he gets the votes, and he'll never get mine, for one, again.

Buchanan is wrong on most things but he is right when it comes to immigration and that alone would make him a better president than most other conservatives out there.

Illegal immigration is destroying our nation and is more of a threat than terrorism in my opinion. I would vote for almost anyone who was serious and dedicated to solving this problem regardless of there other views.

Is there a FReeper dead pool for how long until Hardball and Chrissy get canned? If not, there ought to be.

George Will caved on Iraq. And, in most instances these past years, his pomposity has far outweighed his judgment, in my view.

I suggest you might derive some real value from the superb Norman Podhoretz article ("Is the Bush Doctrine Dead") yesterday in the WSJ. It was classic Podhoretz at his finest. I thought it magnificent in scope and treatment of the complex and most serious WW-IV issue, which places Buchanan (and his views) as nothing more consequential to world events than annoying flea bites under the saddle.

Further, in passing, Norm ripped George Baby a new one. And, rightly so. Truly a great piece of balanced writing so germane to the issues raised herein.

Regards, DK

There is a world of difference between stating the opinion, that we should not have interfered in WW I, thereby creating a power imbalance in Europe. Causing the Germans to be stripped of dignity and land, leading directly to the rise of Nazism, and extreme racism, and saying we should not have fought WW II. Pat posits, that if we would have stayed out of WW I, Britain, France and Germany would have settled sooner or later, and the balance of power would not have become so one sided, leading to Hitler. It is a very persuasive argument. Our country has, and should be funded by tariffs on imports and exports. Of course those that are against them, will always throw up the boogey man of "Smoot Hawley" causing the great depression.

Thank you Jeremhia. This "Smoot Hawley" act is getting old. Just as the Slime press has eroded GW unfairly so was this inaccurate conclusion - but if you tell a lie long enough the sheeple will bit.

Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression.

There's NO airport by the name of O'Hara; for starters.

And IF you mean OHARE, a terrorist WAS caught there and he sits in prison, as we type.

As to the rest of your post, I suggest that you go off and live in your own wee universe, since this one is so distasteful and abhorrent to you. Oh yes, and please loosen that tinfoil binding your head...it has cut of the blood supply to your brain.
