N. Korean Authorities Urge Civilians to Evacuate Near Site of Possible Nuke Test (Breaking)
Headline News Yahooo Japan (in Japanese) JIJI PRESS ^ | 19 August 2006 | JIJI Press, quoting Joongang Ilbo Daily

Posted on 08/18/2006 7:46:33 PM PDT by AmericanInTokyo

Reports from Seoul Korea, (daily newspaper Joongang Ilbo in Seoul) via the Japanese Jiji press agency, that South Korean intelligence has intercepted radio messages/communications in North Korea, which were aired last month, to civilians in the Kilju County, Northern Hamgyeong Province area of northeastern D.P.R.K., to evacuate.

The source in the South Korean government said "our interpretation is that following North Korea's underground nuclear blast test, they wish to head off any escape of radiation that would be a threat to the nearby civilian population and are evacuating as such."

Looks like it, don't it? Maybe they are just being cautious in case their underground test fails and/or leaks fallout above ground? The thought of an above ground test is totally unacceptable. (an understatement, to be sure)

We cannot conduct an atmospheric test. The United States is bound by treaty not to conduct tests in the atmosphere, underwater, or in outer space.

You're talking about the UN Nuclear Test Ban Treaty right?

To paraphrase some Republican official: The Constitution .. and treaties ... are not suicide pacts.

Do you think the americans are ready to fight a war with iran? or would they be looking at $6 gasoline and say - let's make a deal with these guys.

I know the answer. Congress will fight over who makes the deal. And posture for the voting public suckers.

would China go to war with us to protect their oil contracts ?

That's an excellent question, unfortunately, I have no idea ... maybe. That would probably be one of the more pressing questions going through the minds of the White House senior leadership.

The more North Koreans that die from this will mean less slave labor for lil' Kim to use building more supplies for his army.

Don't know about the contractors. A good test would be on what was done during the invasion of Iraq when our military was in MOPP 2 or 3? in anticipation of a NBC hit.

I will make a WAG that contractors are on their own with advisement from the military.

All, can you help us out here?
