a draft would wake the American people up.
True, but I think we have more troops that we have even come close to using at this point.
Now, 1 year down the line after a global war breaks out with say China throwing it's lot in for Iran (not likely), I'd agree that it was time for a draft.
Of course if it ever comes to a global war again, we'll be cracking tactical nukes before we bring a draft back.
