Reports from Seoul Korea, (daily newspaper Joongang Ilbo in Seoul) via the Japanese Jiji press agency, that South Korean intelligence has intercepted radio messages/communications in North Korea, which were aired last month, to civilians in the Kilju County, Northern Hamgyeong Province area of northeastern D.P.R.K., to evacuate.
The source in the South Korean government said "our interpretation is that following North Korea's underground nuclear blast test, they wish to head off any escape of radiation that would be a threat to the nearby civilian population and are evacuating as such."
They don't care so much -- if at all -- about their health, they care that they do not become witnesses of anything important.

"The United States should "shut up" with its concerns about China's growing military spending because the increase is no threat, a Chinese ambassador said Thursday.
Sha Zukang, China's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, told British Broadcasting Corp. radio that American concerns about his country's growing military might were misguided.
"It's better for the U.S. to shut up," Sha said. "Keep quiet. It's much, much better."
Sha said the world need not worry about China's growing economic and military might because "China basically is a peace-loving nation."
"China's military buildup is not threatening anyone," Sha said. "This is a legitimate defense."
China's 2.3 million-member People's Liberation Army is the world's largest fighting force, and Beijing has alarmed its neighbors with double-digit percentage increases in military spending nearly every year for a decade.
U.S.-China military relations have been strained over a number of issues in recent years, including Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's push for Beijing to be more open about its defense priorities, its military budget and its nuclear arsenal."

we are in a much more precarious situation in the middle east - then most of us think here. our proxy (israel) just failed to defeat the proxy (hezbollah) of our enemy (iran), iraq is precarious because internal elements (terrorists, shia militias, etc) can disrupt the stability of the country at will - and we have not and will not use the kind of military force needed to crush it.
iran might make a move here, they just might. and I don't see any evidence of US forces ramping up in the region - moving carrier groups in, moving aircraft wings to theatre airbases, etc.
America Hasent Shown the World what we can really do since World War two I say its about dam time we do and quit these games.

Have you noticed that 4 carriers have been tied up in Norfolk lately? I'd say they were in maintenance standdown before possible extended action.
If I were Iran/NK I'd wonder what was sitting on the ground in Diego Garcia, Guam and a few other places as well. I'd also be wondering a few other things such as posible NBC gear issuance to troops or anything else indicating a possible move to a nuclear battlefield.
One GOOD thing is that if we uncork the PC bottle and let loose it will not take too much in the way of assets to do extreme damage in the ME. Besides, if we have nuclear contingencies I would think that having a large build up of troops in the area would be counterproductive. No point in guarding a nuclear wasteland.
