Two Fox News journalists kidnapped in Gaza: witness (Update: see Post #193)

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian gunmen kidnapped two foreign journalists working for the Fox News television channel in Gaza on Monday, a witness said.

The witness, a Palestinian who worked with the two journalists, said one of them, a producer, was an American, and the other, whose nationality he did not know, was a cameraman.

The Fox News bureau in Jerusalem said it was checking the report.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the abduction.

The witness said two vehicles blocked the journalist's transmission truck in the center of Gaza City and a masked man put a gun to the bodyguard's head, forcing him to the ground.

The kidnappers then sped away with the two journalists.

Similar incidents in the past in Gaza have ended with the release, usually within hours, of kidnapped foreign journalists or aid workers.

Many of the abductions were carried out by Palestinians pressing a grievance against the Palestinian government or its security forces

One of them is Irish, if the reporter is Irish I think it could be Jonathan Hunt.

"dating back to the Barbary Pirates during the Thomas Jefferson era."

If only we handled it like then, now. No questions. Go in. Kick a$$. Get out and let them deal with the destruction themselves.

Not a reporter, a cameraman and a producer

From drudge's link, from al rueters:

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian gunmen kidnapped two foreign journalists working for the Fox News television channel in Gaza on Monday, a witness said.

The witness, a Palestinian who worked with the two journalists, said one of them, a producer, was an American, and the other, whose nationality he did not know, was a cameraman.

Not to be a parade rainer, but you guys are joking about an American being kidnapped by muslim savages. Like him or hate him, the notion of S. Smith getting kidnapped by those animals isn't funny.

Frankly, it wouldn't be funny if they kidnapped some lowlife like Michael Moore or Dick Durban either. Americans in trouble isn't a laughing matter.

There seems to be a total geographical disconnect on this thread. Are FReepers unable to comprehend that Lebanon, Northern Israel and Gaza are three different places? The kidnapped reporter will not be one who's been reporting from Lebanon or Northern Israel. Sheesh.

on Drudge's page, it does say reporter. However, if you follow the link to Rueters, it's a producer and camera man.

You can't ever be sure but I don't really think anyone wants any harm to them.

AP: "Two trucks filled with gunmen boxed in the reporters' car near the Palestinian security headquarters and took them captive, according to witnesses. Several foreigners have been kidnapped in Gaza in recent months. All have been released within hours without harm."
