"Rice has turned into Neville Chamberlin, so they can't count on her."

Don't think so. This is what I think. I think that the US forced the hasnds of all involved to create a situation where the Hezzies have to come out and fight rather than fire missiles at Israeli cities.

The premise of the ceasefire was all offensive actions were to cease. Israel is playing defense by trying to stop the Hezzies from launching missiles at Haifa. The Hezzies launching rockets is not defensive. It is an outright violation.

So, now the Hezzies with the support of the UN and Lebanon have to fight on Lebanese soil.

The Hezzies and Lebanese got pawned and Olmert was the key. He played this ceasefire thing up to the max, including the pols who voted 24-0 for the UN ceasefire.

You want to cresit someone with this? Credit Dr. Rice and John Bolton. 15-0 in the Security Council and all they can do is watch as Israel takes the Hezzies apart.

You are blaming Rice? Credit her and Bolton for the game they played with the Hezzies, Lebanese and the UN. The Security Council got pawned and there isn't a dang thing they can do now since voting 15-0.

The only country that actually got it was the French. Don't be suprised if the French sellout to the Arabs was the cue for the US to implement the ceasefire.

If this wasn't the case, Israel would have demanded their hostages back before any ceasefire.

Don't know if Syria realizes this yet, but those Israeli forces choppered in could very well be moving east.

IMHO Syria is watching closely the aggressive taking of S.Lebanon and is nervous as the Israelis are using Blitzkrieg tactics.

That is exactly what Pat Buchanan accused Israel of doing this past week. Same phrase. Of course, it was part of his anti-semitic routine.

Pat and I don't see "eye to eye" on many things now. For example, I deeply approve of rapid tank advances under the cover of aerial support. :^)

I agree with your points. I believe that same thing. The Israelis agreed to this because any Hezzy rocket launch at Israel breaks the ceasefire while at the same time, Israel gets to move freely about Lebanon until a force gets into place.

No country in its right mind will send troops to Lebanon while the Israeli military is active.

"come out and play hezzies"

Iran has a nuke. It is Pakistans and will be launched using a NK missile.

There is no suprise here. Question is, "will Israel be able to shoot it down and if they do, what will they do to retaliate?"

I am betting Iran is going to do this because it is no lose for them. If they have one and launch it, they know that Israel will be stopped from retailiating because of the oil.

I think the syrians need a couple of photon torpedoes heading their way about now.

As the original T-62 is more than 40 years old, its obsolete 115 mm gun is understandably inadequate for combat against modern Western tanks. The T-62's armor is homogenous cast steel, incorporating neither spaced armor techniques nor composite armour, so a modern tank with a 120 or 125 mm tank gun can destroy it on the first round at any range at which it can be seen....

Agreed. It will be a turkey shoot. The only imaginable upgrade I can see the Syrians being able to pull off might be an application of reactive armor to the T-62. Even then, a burst from a co-ax should just pop that off like squeezing the bubble wrap from around a package you get in the mail, if you see the analogy. Or if you don't wish to close to the range of the co-ax machinegun, it will just require two main gun rounds instead of one. Damn, I miss my M1A1.

I hope you are right. I agree, this ceasefire will never work. Friday was a shameful act of appeasement by Rice. Bush needs to come out, support Israel, and tell Rice to STFU on her 'diplomacy works' crap.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Rice was acting as President Bush's agent. She isn't some rogue Secretary, out there on her own making her own foreign policy. Bush and Condi had held Ehud Olmert's hand for four weeks while that clueless f*#kwit tried to make up his mind. You don't get points for being Colonel Blimp. He screwed up the war.

You have to be a pretty bad PM to have GW, Condi, and the entire IDF General Staff mad at you.

Quit believing the puerile horsecrap they're publishing over at "The Corner". They don't have any clue what's going on.

This is halftime. The war starts up when Nasrallah believes his own propaganda and the Boy President makes his Last Mistake.

Only then, the Prime Minister will be named Netanyahu and the IDF will come out smokin'.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

No Syrian front is going to open. Will you guys stop doing the arm chair general stuff. Syria is not going to make any move into Lebanon or engage Israeli forces. Neither is Iran going to commence a war on the 22 August. Please chill out guys!

The road out of Kuwait heading north towards Basra. This was after Coalition air attacks on the Iraqi Army fleeing north out of Kuwait during 1991.

Very good point! Very ominous too.

Although it's possible that nothing in the near term happens in regards to Syria and/or Iran. You would be wise to not rule out the possiblility of hostile action in the future. Either way, speculation works both ways - as I'm sure we would have not believed September 11th would have happened either. And when the middle east conflict does ignite WW III; I'm sure we will all be saying 'no way it happens' just the night before. We can't always live in safety; we can't always be at peace in the world without open war; there will be a day it will happen and just who is to say it's not sometime soon?
