Dad saw that and in his opinion he thought that he had gone the wrong way naturally being preoccupied with much after that statement.Tell your dad I said hi. :)
It was a little moment that probably only those of us who watch GWB so closely paid any attention to. I think your dad is right. GWB was preoccupied and just turned and walked off, but the limo was in the other direction. The agents quickly caught up to him, and when GWB heard the noise of the gunned engine, he turned and waited. I smiled at the little episode, because usually the Secret Service doesn't let such moments happen.
Given today's events, I have no doubt the unexpected visit by PM Blair in July, not long after the G8 summit, had to do with the early intelligence reports on this plot. Politics aside, the relationship between your Prime Minister and our President is quite touching in a way.

The pieces sure fit about that teleconference, Deb.
Bush and Blair were completely on top of this whole thing.
This is a major victory of the good guys in the War on Terror, IMO.

I know that Wisconsin is famous for cheese but what sort is it a mild or strong cheese? All kinds, but I suppose cheddar is the most popular. BTW, speaking of cheddar, I bought some imported British cheddar at the market the other day. It was wonderful, not as sharp as some American cheddars, but creamy and flavorful.

Snugs, many, many thanks to our good friends in the UK for their excellent work in rooting out this latest terrorist plot. Our strong relationship with the UK is one of our many blessings as Americans.

I know that Wisconsin is famous for cheese but what sort is it a mild or strong cheese?Oh, BTW, snugs, the cheese hat comes from the fans of the Green Bay Packers NFL football team, the hometown of which is Gree Bay, Wisconsin. Packers fans started wearing big cheese hats some time ago; 15-20 years ago, maybe longer. Now it's a Wisconsin thing.

I'll never know how John Bolton keeps his cool in that snakepit we call the UN. I'd have hit someone in sheer frustration by now - and probably someone FRENCH!

Yes flights are now departing from LHR, some airlines I believe just canceled some of their flights today but most I understand will be flying tomorrow.
Of course there will be a big backlog of people and freight to move. The freight companies collected our goods today but we were warned they may not fly for a few days.
Regarding the name Heathrow I assume that it is the same as Stanstead and Gatwick that there must be a town near the airport called Heathrow I will see if I can find out. Or does anyone else know?

Snugs, here's what I dug up on the internet about Wisconsin cheese:
***Today, thanks to pioneers from Germany, France, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, and Scandinavia, and to the industry's continuing dedication that blends the art of cheesemaking with the cutting edge of innovative dairy science, Wisconsin boasts of more than 350 varieties, types, and styles of world-quality cheese. ***

Yes indeed and also people were saying the Condi looked worried and assumed it was to do with the Israeli Lebanon situation now I wonder if it was this that was giving her as much concern.

If this plot had succeeded, I can't imagine how angry people would be.If the plot had succeeded, are there any estimates of the number of people who would have been killed? I've heard that the plotters wanted to take the planes down over large American cities: New York, DC and here in California. That would have added to the death toll, of course.
I've also heard that the wide-bodied aircraft can carry up to 350 passengers plus crew. If they got 10 planes and all 10 were filled (very possible due to vacations), that would be 3500 passengers plus the 10 crews, plus anyone who got hit on the ground. Truly an act of mass murder on an unimaginable scale.
