A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
In the meantime, do we dare ignore the widely touted significance to Muslims of August 22, or the fact that Ahmadinejad postponed Irans response to civilizations nuclear cease-and-desist order until that day? According to Islamic tradition, that is the day after Muhammad made his nighttime journey to Jerusalem and then flew to heaven from the Temple Mount, lighting up the skies over the holy city in his wake. August 22 may pass without event, and some will breathe a sigh of relief if it does. But please pardon me, dear readers, if I am unable to work up much of an appetite between now and then for playing a quick pop in Citi shares, or a head-fake in Beazer Homes. Such silly games seem rather beside the point right now, a distraction from real-world events that are probably too terrifying for most of us to contemplate.
One of the eleven students named Mohammed who went missing was found in MINNESOTA.
Think MALL OF THE AMERICAS.
I recall closing of a nest of unofficial (very scummy) prayer rooms in the bowels of Terminal 1 at Roissy / Charles de Gaulle in Paris.
Man bags?
Watch for Pakistani men carrying these?
It seems to me, if the West is going to continue to be suicidal by allowing such to fly . . . they
SHOULD AT LEAST
insist that all Muslims be seated in those parts of a plane which were least critical to flight. And no more than a small percentage of any given flight should be allowed to be Muslim etc. etc.
But even that minimal level of sanity will not be reached. Sadly.
WOW is right. This was quite a masterful plot.
Wondered the same, Mo1.
Some might say that the only way to be sure; is to nuke them from orbit.
I think both take it serious, but in far different ways.
I think Democrats are like children in thinking you can talk with anyone and that at some point they can convince people with their so called reason. The Democrats see force and Republicans in power IMO as a bastardization of what their view of America is (their view being a version of European socialism here in America).
The Republicans and non leftists in general IMO act more like adults and know that you can't debate with a rabid dog that wants you dead.
I think the hope of the Republican party and all non leftists is to defend the security of our nation, to attempt to win against terrorist by showing a might show of force (which is all that is respected).
IMO there needs to be a major reform of Islam before it becomes a world wide forbidden cult.
Seems to me the Democrats are for form over substance.
It is real sad to also realize Democrats would be willing to sacrifice IMO American troops in exchange for a change to rule again.
I think this crisis in Britain will have us checking all our bags as well and look for this to remind soon to vote Americans that there is a real world, and the rants of a world Democrats try to make believe we live in.
Voting Democrat can really get you killed these days IMO, and that is the bottom line, isn't it?
I caught cell phones disallowed, too but I don't recall where I heard or read that on this situation. But no cell phones to be allowed either.
I hate people who think the need their entire closet jammed into a bag the size of a golfbag and finally get it jammed into the overhead compartment at cruise altitude, and then solicit the help of two people to get it unstuck when the plane is disembarking.
Ping... Wake up Ivan! We need some intel from your side of the pond.
I'm just a mom (and now a grandma), and I've never kept track of my "impressions". They come and go. It took the near drowning of our son for my husband to believe in my "feelings" and dreams.
To do this with a group of reagents NONE of which were toxic, would be a major coup.
The "drink the liquid or else toss it" policy's been going on since at least 2003 in some airports.
I don't care --- I hate the carry on luggage because too many people try to carry too much. I take my handbag (purse) and check my luggage.
Our President and Commander In Chief called Hizb and Hamas political organizations that ran candidates that got elected. Go figure.
