A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

And, that the personnel cost for doing this would be prohibitive because the people who service Florida cannot service California, etc. even though the job is EXACTLY the same.

Nut yet, we here in the US, must not PROFILE.We can't upset those who are by nature overly-sensitive to having their space violated.

You're right. Community leaders today more often than not today are hard core anti-government organizers.

A security bomb expert on Irish radio was saying that apart from liquids/size half pack of cigarettes, etc he points out that there is no reason you couldn't smuggle it on internally (like drugs mules).

Young Pakistani Muslims apparently are "no particular community"
Its like the Toronto Star wondering all those would-be terrorists had in common over there.

Good point, Mo.
I am hoping wiretapping played a huge role. I think that'll be called just desserts.

Appeasement may explain the thinking of the naive, pacifist left. But there are others on the left who have a Romanticist fascination with the Rebel. Muslim rejection and violence against Western culture fulfills these leftists' fantasies of rebellion. These are the types who wear Che Guevara T-shirts. There is always an admiration for anyone who revolts against the "system." Hence the secret admiration of Islamofascists. This is apparently nothing new.
Last night Instapundit linked to an article about Ned Lamont's grandfather...a well-known "fellow traveller". Here's an excerpt:
In 1952, Corliss Lamont wrote in The Myth of Soviet Aggression: The fact is, of course, that both the Truman and Eisenhower Administrations, in order to push their enormous armaments programs through Congress and to justify the continuation of the cold war, have felt compelled to resort to the device of keeping the American people in a state of alarm over some alleged menace of Soviet or Communist origin.
I was struck by how familiar it all sounded.
