More than one-third of Americans suspect federal officials assisted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks or took no action to stop them so the United States could go to war in the Middle East, according to a new poll. The survey also found that 16 percent of Americans speculate that secretly planted explosives, not burning passenger jets, were the real reason the massive Twin Towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.
The national Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 adults also found that anger against the federal government is at record levels, with 54 percent saying they "personally are more angry" at the government than they used to be.
Widespread resentment and alienation toward the national government appears to be fueling a growing acceptance of conspiracy theories about the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Suspicions that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job quickly have become nearly as popular as decades-old conspiracy theories that the federal government was responsible for President John Kennedy's assassination and that it has covered up proof of space aliens.
Seventy percent of people who give credence to these theories also say they've become angrier with the federal government than they used to be.
Thirty-six percent of respondents overall said it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" that federal officials either participated in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon or took no action to stop them "because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East."
"One out of three sounds high, but that may very well be right," said Lee Hamilton, former vice chairman of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
His congressionally appointed investigation concluded that federal officials bungled their attempts to prevent, but

Hey, compare that to 2/3 in Canada. I'm surrounded by retards up here guys, help!
Sounds like that 1/3 of Americans who are leftist Bush haters.

Whatever liberal pollster took this poll, probably took it in downtown Berkeley and San Francisco...
Good point, 'zilla! Eurotwit, what do you think the ratio is across the pond?

That's scary! What is wrong with this world? Where has rational thought gone? I guess being normal simply isn't cool.
The good news is that these ignoramuses (ignorami?) probably don't vote in large numbers.
Well, I could name a past POTUS and more than a few congress critters who did nothing to stop it.
If they took the poll on campus, it's going to reflect a more liberal view. If the ask questions like: "In light of recent revelations of the government spying on it's own people and sending young men off to die for a pointless war - are you more or less happy with the government than you were in the halcyon days of the Clinton administration?" they're probably not going to get a fair response.
Betcha Mel Gibson is part of that 1/3rd.
This sounds like an exit poll conducted after viewing a certain Michael Moore 'crockumentary'
It IS people I know - people who started out as ardent Bush supporters.
Alex Jones is reaching more people every day. The recent multiple C-SPAN runs of the 9/11 panel discussion reached a lot of floaters out there.
This has been - is BEING - skilfully packaged and brilliantly marketed. Wishful thinking and dismissing those who believe it as DU gooks isn't going to make it go away.
And that in itself would be a very telling stat if they did ask that question. For those 1/3 of the population, what is your party affiliation? They would have to ask that question first because some may be clever enough to spot the trap.
Any truth to the rumor that the explosives where brought in disguised as venetian blinds?
Sure it can. Not only that, about half of Americans think we are in an economic recession, that the elections of 2000 and 2004 were rigged by the Republican's, that the "savings rate" of Americans is a negative number (it does not include 410K or IRA), and that Social Security does not need fixing. You have the "Lame Stream Media" to thank for this.
You don't want to know how many believe that UFO's are from outer space, or that Elvis is not dead.
