Wheres The Compassion for Mel Gibson?
LOS ANGELES- Since Mel Gibsons arrest for suspicion of drunk driving last week, liberal Jewish leaders and most of the media have condemned him for uttering anti-Jewish slurs. On two occasions Gibson has since offered apologies and asked forgiveness from the Jewish communitybut some in the media are still not satisfied. Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND (Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny) issued a statement today calling for Gibsons detractors to have compassion for the star. Below is Rev. Petersons statement in its entirety regarding this issue:
I am sorry that Mel Gibson and his family are going through this difficult period. Gibson absolutely did the right thing by offering a heartfelt apology and asking for forgiveness from the Jewish communityhes even asked to meet with Jewish leaders. To those who will not be satisfied until Gibson is destroyedI say shame on you. Wheres your humanity?
Now there appears to be an orchestrated campaign by some Hollywood insiders and media to personally destroy Gibson. These same people opposed Gibsons blockbuster The Passion of the Christ which despite opposition from liberals was a huge hit among audiences. These smear merchants are using this incident to get back at Gibson. Its time that people accept his apology and move on.
Had this been a liberal struggling with a similar addictionthese same people would be calling for understandingso wheres the compassion for Mel Gibson? Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Louis Farrakhan have all made anti-Jewish remarks in the past with little public condemnation. But God help you if you make a highly successful movie about Jesus Christ and then succumb to alcoholism. This is another example of selective outrage practiced by liberal hypocrites. So much for liberal compassion.

Not by far the same thing pal--Clinton was PRESIDENT of the USA--living in scandal--
Let Gibson's perscuters go watch the Passion --Christ forgave both from the cross-can we do less?
Abe should learn to say the OUR FATHER!
Your funny ,you say Gibson has a hate for the jews...he loves the biggest and best of them JESUS CHRIST! get a life!
Right on the nose!
Any chance of getting a ranking of jews from biggest and best to worse and least?
Now whose being anti Christian? despise?
To know Jesus the JEW is to love Him-the Bible is the Word of God like it or not!
I didn't say it was the same thing. I was responding to those people who were saying, "Hey, Mel apologized - everything is fine now and anyone who criticizes him now is piling on." I was just pointing out that merely issuing an apology isn't enough and used Clinton as an example. Any insincere apology would suffice as an example. Actions will be more important than an apology issued by a publicist.
Alcoholism is a horrible disease, what I find really sad is that he fell off the wagon. I hope he gets help and I hope he does well and I hope he learned a lesson.
Crucifying Gibson is an attempt to invalidate the most successful non studio supported film in history.
I guess its fair to say if it was your kid you won't forgive him?
Wasn't it David who had his mistress's husband killed. Didn't God forgive him? He repented and God forgave him.
Pat Buchanan has lots of compassion for Mel Gibson.
The fantasizing female fans have lots of passion for Mel Gibson.
Well, so far, the only evidence we have the Gibson has repented is a statement from a publicist.
God had enough to send His only Son to take Mel's punishment upon the cross.
He calls us to accept that same mercy and grace for all of our sins. It's impossible to merit His forgiveness. The only way to receive clean consciences: to trust in His grace given in Christ.
And God calls us to stop bringing up other people's sins when they have repented.
Two wrongs don't make a right.
So only the sinless can criticize anyone?
Well, we should close down this website then.
