The problem is that sufism is just a door to more radical Islam. Sufism is considered heretical by orthodox Muslims, and the movement - particularly the Marabitun, which is directed at upper-class Western converts - is functioning more as a channel to move Westerners into Islam than anything else.
They could spin until they drop, as far as I'm concerned, but that's not all they're doing. Rumor has it, btw, that Prince Charles converted to Islam through a Sufi group. So far he's done nothing more dramatic than change his title to "Defender of the Faiths" (note the plural), and I doubt that he's going to put on a bomb-belt any day soon. But the Sufis are basically a means of infiltrating Western societies by appealing to the goofy, wavy-eyed "seeker" generation.
Michelle Malkin has dubed them "Religion of Perpetual Outrage". I love it!

I used to know a lot of them when I was in college. I knew a young man who had escaped by foot out of Kabul into Pakistan when the Russians were fighting in Afghanistan. He was such a sweet guy.
I knew a bunch of people from Syria, Morrocco, some from Kuwait and some from Eygpt, Iran, Bangladesh, even a Palestinian or two. We non-moslems used to wonder how such nice people could fight as crazy as they did.
But the craziest of the bunch was a guy from Pakistan. He looked wild. But he was a math tutor...don't know which made him crazier...Mathematics or being Pakistani....This was back in the 80s, and the world wasn't quite as insane, at least from my POV as it is today.
