This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.
Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)
The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.
A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.
Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.
Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.
"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.
The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.
His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.
Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.
Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."
Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)
First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)
Enjoy your trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!
haha I know! Wish I could have seen that.
Well it sounds like you're enjoying "chasing" your kids all over. My mom and dad retired just a few weeks ago and moved to Missouri so we will be "chasing" down there to see them in a few weeks.
It's been soooo hot here, and humid, too. It's thunderig now, so praying for rain. I better not stick around too long, but it's so fun to chat with friends!
Glad you're not having as much pain. Sounds like you might need Physical Therapy . . . will you?
I had kind of a bummer day but it's much improved with the company of Dosers.
:-)
The storm is getting close so I'm going to sign off for now; one broken computer is enough for today! (It's just the fan so hopefully not too expensive/time consuming to repair).
Nice to chat with you all and sweet dreams!
Hmmm...I don't think so. I think I'll probably start walking in the Cam walker soon. It'll keep my ankle stable but allow me to walk without crutches. I have at least another week in the splint and then probably a week or so wearing the Cam walker and using crutches. And then maybe I'll be able to ditch the crutches. They'll probably give me exercises I can do on my own. Everyone knows about my internship and no one wants to keep me here if I don't have to be here.
Aww I'm sorry your day wasn't very good. The Dose always makes everything better :)
GREAT GQ look, Mr. President!!!---right down to the shoes!
Excellent stats, too! You are an inspiration to us all!!!
And...upon further inspection...my FAV tie, as well!
I am, and I'm not even his Mom!
I know, I could NEVER reach 46 BPM. Wow.
CyberAnt - Prayers of comfort are on their way to you and your family. Thank goodness you know that she is in a better place, that she will always there for you to talk to, and that she loves you very much.
God Bless You and Your Family
BIG hugs, my friend!
Thank goodness, snugs! Tell Dad hi from San Diego!
I was so pleased (but not surprised) to hear about GWB's great physical today. I wish that I had said before tonight what I had been thinking for a couple weeks--that it looked to me like he had put on a little weight. I had wondered if anyone else noticed. Of course, as someone who could stand to lose 15lbs, it was not at all a criticism--just an observation. He certainly is an inspiration--in many ways.
Thanks again.
Good night will not be that long myself
Hi snugs. I am on dialup connection after trying for three hours to get the DSL to work. I'll attack the problem again tomorrow.
What a nuisance I hate it when my cable goes down, as well as slow connection the inconvenience of hogging the phone line along with the phone extension cord across the floor.
Hope you sort it out tomorrow.
"see them in a few weeks."
Hope it cools off some for your visit. Right now it's miserable here!
I was fortunate to be at the rope line at one of the rallies. I wasn't quick enough for a handshake that time, but I put my hand on his arm. His forearm was like a rock, solid indeed!
