A Day in the Life of (a very healthy) President Bush - (photos) - 8.1.06

This morning President Bush traveled to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for his annual physical. He was declared in good health, but has gained a bit of weight (four pounds) which he attributed to 'too many birthday cakes.' Doctors put him in the superior category of fitness for men his age.

Some of the fun details.........(excerpted from Reuters......)

The nearly 6-foot Bush weighed in at 196 pounds, up from around 191.6 pounds last year.

A fitness enthusiast, Bush rides his mountain bike several times a week and also does elliptical training, free-weights, stretching and low-impact workouts on a treadmill.

Mountain biking became his favorite sport after he had to give up running three years ago because of knee problems.

Bush's body mass index is 26.6 under a formula used by the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 25 or above is considered to be overweight though the index does not account for extra muscle mass.

"The president remains in excellent health and fit for duty. All data suggest that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency," a summary of the medical report said.

The president's resting heart rate was 46 beats per minute, well below the average of range of 60 to 85 and consistent with someone in very good physical shape.

His blood pressure was 108/68 and his cholesterol was 174, both normal levels. His cholesterol level was down from 178 last year.

Bush, who celebrated his birthday at a Fourth of July dinner at the White House, was given a total of seven cakes during the week he turned 60, according to White House spokesman Tony Snow.

Asked about Bush's weight gain, Snow said, "My guess is he's determined to lose it."

Last year's physical exam found that Bush had lost eight pounds (3.5 kg) after his weight had crept up to 199.6 pounds (90.5 kg) in December 2004, an increase he blamed on the presidential campaign that year. (end excerpt)

First Lady Laura and daughters Barbara and Jenna were spotted in Alaska at the Denali National Park and Preserve on vacation, and it was confirmed by the National Park Service there. (It's hard to hide when you're the wife of the President!)

You know I really think they put the setting "off" a little on the camera.

I do that (not on purpose) on occasion & it makes me mad to lose great shots to fuzz.. the "sharpen" tools only do so much.

doggone Media.. subtle ways to undermine (passive aggressive?)

They aren't usually that subtle, Dolly.

I'm not sure they're smart enough to think of things like that.

Usually they just tell baldfaced lies, and leave it at that.

Gotta do some reading and get to bed.

Don't go causing any trouble on the DOSE while I'm gone, ya hear?

GOOD NIGHT, ALL!

(I may have a surprise for everyone tomorrow night.......)

You've been through soooo much! Your spirit and positive attitude is amazing. Do not let anyone tell you how to grieve; it's normal not to want to go into your bedroom (and it would be normal to spend lots of time in there too.) What a blessing our faith is, to KNOW your dear daughter and husband are TOGETHER, and you will all be reunited someday. God bless you all and grant you comfort and peace.

Here's a sample of ONE of the types of glassware Fenton makes:

There are many, many other types of glassware that they make, though, and they are not all such large pieces. I have a small milkglass candy dish which I love.

My ankle's okay. My splint felt kinda funny today but my mom thought it could be because the swelling has finally gone down and I wasn't used to it. I think she's right :) So that's a good thing. And I haven't had to take the pain medicine as much as I did at first. So it's doing better... I'll be seeing an orthopedist next week to get the staples removed and have it looked at so we'll see what he says. I'll be glad to get rid of the splint and put my Cam walker back on.

How are you doing? :)

I am pleased to say that this president and I share the same blood pressure. Beyond that, I refuse to comment.

Thanks for the Dose, owf.
